What do you mean by ‘refuses to save anything’? Does it error or display a dialog at all? Is the file you are opening set to read-only? Does it autoback? Can you save it as a new name like olx in a different location? Just that file or anything? Is it possible to import or merge into a new scene, then save?

Please reply then we will discuss further.

I click save, type a name for the file then click save. Then when I check the folder in windows explorer, the file's not there.

I'm having the same problem as you. So I revert to a previous version (the 2018), as it accept the material updates I made (installing a new graphic card, and adding memory to my system).

The main problem comes from the software, as changing the properties of the folders won't change the saving problem.

3DS Max also ask for obsolete file format, when opening an older max file (from a previous version). But is does not save it, wherever you want to place the file.

It still accept the export way for saving files. So I'm trying to change the register association files, so that max files are open with the newer version of 3DS. But I don't expect much from it.

You can ask the maintenance service of Autodesk, and also try a new clean install (if you have time). I'm also trying a new complete reinstall of all of my system, on a new hard drive. I'll write about it in 1 or 2 weeks. It may run this way, installing 3DS Max2020 as the first external software on windows.

Hi everyone,

Can you please confirm that you are running (or have downloaded and installed) the 3ds Max Security Tools for all your copies of 3ds Max?

Some problems caused by the ALC/CRP MAXScripts include breaking 3ds Max Save functionality, so please make sure you've installed these and have them running, and let us know if this behavior is continuing. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Any updates to this issue re: saving Max files? Have you installed the Security Tools mentioned in my post above?

Please let us know, and thanks for your feedback!

hi Jon, thank you for the suggestion

but I still can't save my file..when I save the file, the untitled file name here changes to any file names I typed in, indicating it has saved the file but when I checked to the file destination (on desktop), I can't find my file.

and when I try to quit, this popup message came, meaning the file isn't actually saved

I don't know how to repair this I need to save my files 😢

Hello,

Can you please confirm that you've installed the 3ds Max Security Tools and are running them?

Also, are you running on a school machine, or a machine that has strict security policies? Are you able to save any file (such as a text file) to your local desktop? (This may be a permissions issue.)

In addition, can you try saving your Max scene file to a different location, such as a C:\Scenes folder?

Please let us know, and we hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Jon, sorry for the late reply, I gave up trying to save the file. So I saved it as a .3dsfile because its the only way to at least save my file, and then I downgraded my 3ds max to 2018 which has no problems in saving the files.

So sorry everyone who is trying to get some answers!! I still don't know yet

Hi Adin_Ach,

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to save a 3ds Max .max file anywhere on your PC if you have proper permissions, a proper install and sufficient disk space.

I could mark this thread as Solved, but that really doesn't address your issue. If you don't mind, could you please create a technical support case for this problem, put my name in the title, and let me arrange a Team Viewer session and phone call with you so I can see this problem first-hand on your PC?

Please let me know (you can send me a private message, if you want) and I hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Adin_Ach,

I sent you a private message with a folder link. If possible, I would very much like to get a File > Archived version of the 3ds Max scene that you couldn't save so I could test it here.

Could you please let me know if this is possible? Thanks!
