3ds max 2019.3 slow exiting

Hi there,

When exiting max it takes about 6 minutes until it closes down. Even with an empty scene.

Brand new hp z800 48core machine

Fresh install of max2019 +  update 3

Resetted user prefs to be sure

Only extra I have in there is a corona 3 trial version.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Nils

Hi @Anonymous

Great to hear from you on the forums! I'm curious, do you have an equal amount of time on startup of 3DS Max 2019.3? Did Max 2019 not have this issue on your machine prior to the .3 update?

I would suggest making sure your Graphics driver is on the most recent update. Also, it may help to run your Task Manager while starting and exiting the program to see what components spike in usage. I would say the Performance tab would be the most useful in this situation.

It might be helpful to send me over a full DXDiag so we can look over your computer Specs.

I'm looking forward to helping you resolve this issue 😄

Thanks for your help!

We're currently in the process of migrating to 2019. So I upgraded to 2019.3 right away. I haven't run previous versions.

-I have installed the latest nvidia driver for my 2080 ti

-Checked the taskmanager. No spikes

-Dxdiag report is attached in this reply

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me, and being so thorough with the list 😄

Did the update and Graphics card driver update work to alleviate the issue?

I don't recall seeing an issue specifically with 3DS Max slow to close (without also being slow to start/slow performance in general). You could try starting Max using a different graphics display driver, here is an article on how to do so, lets see if this results in a faster close.

If nothing works, I found a script that closes Max (hypothetically) on CG Architects forums, but I don't have an account to test the script, but it *may work.

Talk to you soon,

@hagen.deloss

The cgarchitect link didn't work and tbh this wasn't a real workable solution for us.

I did some more investigation.

I disabled my network card in Windows because I was suspecting it was a network/login/sign-out problem.

Problem gone! Max closes down immediately. Robot Happy

Enabled my network card again and the problem didn't come back. So it's working now as it's supposed to. For now...

Could it be firewall issues?

I will do some more testing and if the problem arises again I will report back.

Thanks for all your help so far!

Nils

You try to reinstall the computer operating system. Then install vray and try to see if it is still slow? It is difficult to judge the cause, possibly due to viruses, spyware or software conflicts. Best you reinstall, if ok then install another software to eliminate the cause.

Disabling the network card was a great thought! I think @lequangvinhbkhn is on the right track in regards to Antivirus Softwares, what do you have installed in that department? I would suggest the following.

  • Disable any Intivirus or malware protection you have installed
  • Add 3DS Max as an exception to any Antivirus or malware protection you have installed

I look forward to hearing more about this issue, and what the root cause is,

Hi @Anonymous

I wanted to check in, do you have any further thoughts or questions regarding the exit slowdown time?

@hagen.deloss

So far no slowdowns. So that's good.

In fact, we have another machine that had the same problem.

Same solution applied: disable/enable network card. Problem gone!

Thanks for all your help!
