With 2016 whenever i select an object it appears to move in the viewport, making me very nervous that nothing will actually be where it should be (even when the move tool isn't active)

Also when selecting an object the view seems to teleport to some random corner of the model of fades out....

Ive tried it on ortho/perspective and every viewstyle.

Really starting to annoy me! any fixes???

Could be a number of things, most likely are the size of the objects in terms of the System Units and the location of the objects with respect to the world origin.
Try loading Max, change the System Units to cm, change the Display Units to Generic, create a 10cm Cube and move it to the Origin.
Do you get the same problems manipulating that cube? If so, save the scene, Zip it and attach it to a reply so we can take a look - it should work without any problems.

Having the same problem as OP with max 2016, everytime it would randomly teleport to another location in the viewport especially

moving objects in the viewport.

Tried the same file with max 2015, no such problem.

Steve

No such problems with a simple scene with a cube.

The problem seems to kick in randomly, a reboot will solve it temporarily.

The scenes im working on aren;t overally big, all set to 0,0, 130k polys. i;ve tried changing the graphics driver  from Nitrous Quadro K5000).

Going back to 2015 till the hotfix is rolled out.

Are you sure that this occurs when selecting objects and not navigating around them? I'm having the same problem but only when navigating around objects that are further than the origin point of the scene. I should mention that this never happened to me with Max 2014.

Hi all, just figured I would chime in on this one. The symptoms all sound like high coordinate type problems. What sofware are the files you're importing from?

FWIW have you tried:

  • Move to 0,0,0 > Reset Xform > convert to poly/mesh?
  • or
  • Move to 0,0,0 Reset Xform > Export to obj > reimport

I have seen a couple other posts around the forum for something similar, Like to point out to autodesk that it doesn't happen when i open the same file in 2016.

Having this issue as well, object teleport when you move tham, and randomly, seems to have something to do with mouse input as only happens whn unclicking or moving the mouse.

if you move your objects to 0,0,0 do you experience the same behavior?

Yes when placed at 0,0,0 the problem persists, and creating a new scene and merging all objects into the new scene seems to fix the issue. Restarting does not fix the issue.

hi,

I get this sometimes (only in 2016 and not in previous versions) in ortho view, found that if flip it to perspective mode, move around  and play with the zoom, then flipping back to ortho mode, it seems to fix it (for a while anyway)

Here is the readme for the 2012 64bit (latest version)

This is modifered version of the Valve smd exporter
which supports weights and the max skin modifer.

It also fixes a problem where textures assigned to a model
(instead of faces), was being ignored.

This version now supports export selected

The exporter does NOT require the use of multi-subobject
materials. A standard material with a bitmap assigned to
the diffuse channel is all that is required

I have also included a compiled version of the VTA exporter
from the Source SDK. This is used with the morpher modifier
to create facial animations.

Version 2.04 adds the ability to specify an animation range, use the material name instead of
the diffuse name and provides a maxscript interface. To call from maxscript use the following

ExportSMD <filename> <Export Selected> <Reference> <Flip Normals> <Mirror Normals> <Use Material> <Animation Start> <Animation End>
e.g.
ExportSMD "test.smd" false true false false false "1" "2"

Place these in your Program Files/Autodesk/3ds Max 2012/plugins directory.

I saw 2012 a couple time in there, will it still work with 3ds Max 2016??

Customize | Preferences | Gizmos | Move/Rotate Transforms | set to Projection (instead of Intersection).  Autodesk broke this in 3dsmax2014.  It caused a behavior where when snap was activate and you were not actually snapping the object but rather moving its pivot would center itself on your cursor causing the jumping movement described.  Drove me crazy as well.

Doesn't work for me. Author will have to recompile for 2016 most likely
