3ds Max 2014 - Problems using Shift, Alt, and Ctl Keys

I'm experiencing a problem with 3ds Max 2014 - a problem I've never encountered in a previous version of Max. For some reason some of the basic Shift, Alt, and Ctl key usages aren't working.

For example, if I try to Select and Move an Object while holding the Shift key nothing happens; the clone dialog doesn't come up and no clone is made.

Also, the basics of object selection isn't working. If I depress the Ctl key while trying to add objects to my selection set, nothing happens. And depressing the Alt key doesn't work to remove objects from the selection set.

It's a very frustrating issue...any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

Weird. I'm on my home PC and I'm having none of these problems. My work PC - with the problem behavior - is a Windows 7 64 PC and my home PC is a Windows 8 64 PC.

Any suggestions?

Solved it...just realized that within the Customize UI that in the mouse customization screen the Maya mode was clicked on. Grrr. I guess I must have clicked that on accidentally.
