3D Visual Effects for 3ds Max

Hello everyone !

I'm planning to learn 3ds Max after being advised to use it for 3D VFX by a senior artist because of Thinking Particles , Fume FX etc.

My question is ...

Should I learn intermediate modeling , texturing , rigging ? or I can just skip to VFX after learning the very basic of 3ds Max is enough ?

also  What version of 3ds Max is recommended for doing VFX ?

Because I don't want to model & do things everything in Max since I'm already familiar with Maya and don't want to waste time in learning all of those again...

Thank you 🙂

Stick with Maya.
Fume FX, Phoenix FD, and Houdini FX should do what you need to do.

if you're gonna learn 3ds max for vfx, you should learn ALL aspects of modeling, texturing rigging and animation, without learning 85% of 3ds max, you'll never survive in the vfx industry, especially if the producer assigns you a specific task for a vfx shot in a tv show or movie

any versions of 3ds max are recommended for vfx (i would suggest the latest version)

best solution is to go back to basics if you tend to migrate to 3ds max (as i am doing with blender and lightwave 3d) after all, it's always best to model and animate with all software available
