3d max crashes on opening material editor

when ever i try to make material or try to open material material editor . my 3d max crashes... even if i open new blank file and try to open material editor . it crashes

You can try reset to default setting of 3ds Max. 1st step turn off Max if still running. Then go to:
%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2020 - 64bit\ENU
Rename the "ENU" folder to another name. Open Max again and check if the error got solved or not?
(Doing so will reset your custom toolbar button (for scripts,...), custom UI, etc... You can export/save them before doing the steps if necessary).

Did it only crash with VRay render engine or all available one, did you tried switch (back and forth) to another renderers (Scanline/MentalRay/Arnold/etc...) before open Mat Editor (ME) again? Do you happen to have massive amount of cores/threads on your PC? (there was a issue with too many cores back then in scanline renderer). Did you try to switch to another viewport display modes (Direct3D, Nitrous, OpenGL, etc...) and open ME again?

i have tried all these solutions..but the error is only with vray render..... i cant switch to any other because as soon as i apply material,, default render automatically changes to vray.. 
i even had a live chat and they told me about clean install and that browser download... i followed there instruction.. i downloaded the setup again but the setup is showing error that files are missing

I also am having this issue; spontaneously.Tried reseting ribbon and a fresh re installation of 3dsmax.  Using vray next and 3dsmax 2014.

Hi @roland8217,

When 3ds Max crashes, is it allowing you to submit a customer error report (CER) with your email address? If so, can you please send me a private message telling me the address your using, or if the CER numbers that you're seeing after submitting the defect reports? Thanks!

Just checking in to see if you were still having this issue. Also, since 3ds Max 2014 is quite old and is no longer being supported, I wanted to see if you had upgraded to a later version and if this issue was still happening for you. Could you please let us know? Thanks!

C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2021 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\defaults\MAX.vray\CurrentDefaults.ini

find:

[100 C80 0]

; V-Ray Material

materialType=0x37bf3f2f 0x7034695c

change materialType:

from

materialType=0x37bf3f2f 0x7034695c

to

materialType=0x3d6b1cec 0xdeadc001

(taken from default max config.ini)

Works for me in 3ds Max 2021.1 with Vray 5.00.04

I use max 2021 with vray 6, I don't have the MAX.vray folder, instead I have MAX but after checking the .ini file I couldn't find the line for

yes it is.... Whenever I open the material editor even with blank page it shows the msg and crashes. Give me some solution how can I resolve this issue
