Using Max in this way is outside the norm for me, so I feel like I'm missing something really simple here.
I was given an .fbx file from some architects (i believe using Revit) and I'm supposed to open the file so some people on my end can take a look at it and mess around with some of the colors in the renders. The problem is that when I import the .fbx using default settings everything shows up as a material-less light grey.
If I eye drop any of the objects it shows that its a multi/sub-object mat and has a material (ex Material #3284). But when I go into that the sub material is a basic 3ds max "Standard" material with no bitmap attached to its diffuse slot. If I assign the materials myself from the .fbm folder its without UV's or material IDs. There's too many textures to figure out what goes with what for each individual object in the scene.
What am I missing here? Attached is a screen cap of the import settings.
I use max alot for visualization and I used to link a revit file to it with some great success some time ago, maybe 2017 or something. I just tried doing it again for a file coming out of revit 2019 and the linking of the revit file was a disaster with an exemption error so I tried the export/ link an fbx file. My result was everything being grey as well with no material assignments whatsoever. I think my problem is somewhat different than yours but parts of it seem similar.
I could recommend a workaround but it would be tedious with having to remap to the correct material ID's which you should not have to do. Hopefully someone has a solution.
Hi @Anonymous ,
Is there a way you could send the .fbx file in a private message for further analysis?
Thank you,
Catalin
QA -3ds Max
I am also working on exporting from Revit to Max.
I think the problem starts with Revit.
If during export in Revit the Graphic Display Options is not set to Realistic, then the materials and textures will not come along properly.
You may then get all gray materials in Max.
And then during export you have to click Use LOD so the export knows which Graphic Display option to use.
Hello there,
I have the same probleme, i want to vizualise my projects in a Video Games Engine so i have to pass by 3ds Max, but when i export my project from Revit to 3ds Max all my textures are gone, is there a solution for this issue ?
