I tested with a sample Revit 2018 file using the Link Revit function in 3ds Max 2018, and cannot seem to reproduce the error. The scene comes in as expected with no message updates.
Could you check to see if the Revit Interoperability component was installed initially with Max 2018 please?
You can do this by checking the Windows Control Panel or the Autodesk Uninstall Tool in Windows by going to Start > All Apps (Win 10) or All Programs (Win 7) > Autodesk > Uninstall Tool.

If this component is missing it may be causing the issue as the linking capability will not be there to interpret the data. If missing, could you please try installing 3ds Max 2018 again and selecting it from the drop-down list?
