Dear Autodesk,

I would like to know when will you be able to fix the morph target limit in Max?

We are currently in the game dev business, can you imagine what we have to go through when we reach this limit in Max? Countless hours of rigging workarounds and imports and exports!

Excuse the frustration and lack for better word, but it is ludicrous and insane to have such a limitation linger on for so long.

For offline work we have invested in custom scripts and morph - o - Matic, but game engines and FBX do not accept these workarounds and plugins, please give the morpher some priority and save us the torture and pain.

Thank you,

Hi @Anonymous,

Since 3ds Max 2017, Morpher modifier can load more than 100 morph targets.

Attached a small video that displays Morpher with 1001 targets in Max 2017.

The UI displays the first 100 targets, but you can still add more using the "Load Multiple Targets" button.

I hope this can help ! 🙂

Hi ads,

Thanks for the heads up, this looks like some kind of a hidden feature that perhaps we missed int he new features list somewhere or it wasn't properly advertised. Also our scripts where having trouble detecting the nonlisted channels. So we have to ammend the scripts to work with this.

I think if you guys put a 'number of channels' parameter somewhere so we can choose how many empty channels are visible in the list before we assign the targets, that would solve the confusion in the future. Right now it just displays 100 as default until you add more in the last channel.

I don't see how this is possible. I try to add more morph channels via the 'load multiple targets' and Morpher throws an error about too many channels - in Max 2020

The Max documentation itself says that it supports 100 channels

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2020/ENU/3DSMa...

"The modifier provides 100 channels for morph targets and materials. "

This is completely inadequate in this day and age - complex animation may require thousands of morphs for a detailed character...this is utterly ridiculous
