Snaping pivot problem in animation

Hello, i have a problem with a pivot in a group ( sometimes with other parts too )

I transfered the pivot from the middle of this group to the bottom. If i now want to rotate the object around the new pivot it snaps back to the old pivot. What i am doing wrong? Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

After moving the pivot try clicking Reset: transform int the Adjust Pivot panel.

I recommend to avoid groups in 3ds Max. Especially when animating.

Instead I recommend to create a helper object, place it where you want the pivot and then parent your current group members to it (after ungrouping).

Thank you very much! That helped a lot! I am using now the linked helper objects, much better than grouping objects.

If you're having pivot snapping issues in animation in 3ds Max:

  • Don’t move the pivot directly during animation—use dummy objects or helper nodes to control pivot movement.

  • Use "Affect Pivot Only" in the Hierarchy panel before setting keyframes.

  • For snapping, enable "Use Pivot Point Center" in the toolbar and check Snap Settings (S) for correct snap options.
