Point Cache animation FBX Export

Hi,
I been provided with two animated characters that have been animated for 175 frames with a point cache modifier.
I want to export these into C4D via FBX for some animation testing there.
Inside MAX (been testing with 2015, 2017, 2018) the Charakters move as they have been set up to do by the creator. I can also delete the Pointcache-modifier, reapy it, relink the .xml and it works.

When i export as .fbx, the dropdown list for Point Cache file is empty though and i am unable to export the animation - only static meshes arrive in C4D.

How do i go about it? Some small box i need to tick or do i need to save the .xml to a specific location?

Any help would be much apprechiated!
Cheers 🙂

Hi @Anonymous,

when export Point Cache to FBX you have to create a Selection Set in Max before export.

Thus why you see nothing in the drop down list.

. Use the Object Space Point Cache modifier.

. Select your object with the Point Cache

. in Max UI, in the toolbox "Selection Set" type-in a name for the selection.

. now you can export Point Cache to FBX by enabling it and setting your Selection Set from the drop-down menu.

I hope this can help! 🙂

If you want to show your animations in Sketchfab, the easiest way is to export to Alembic Files. These are supported by Sketchfab.
There is also some Sketchfab plugin available, but it is not supporting vertex animations yet. At least as far as I know.
