3ds max 2013 vray 3.5 walkthrough animation beginner problem

Hello.

I follow the forum quite often, though I have never posted before.

I am making my first walkthrough animation. I have already made an exterior one just to give it a try, but it was just my camera following a circle, and my building was in its center, so it was quite forward.

Before I proceed to any rendering, I have a problem with my frame rate I 'd like to ask some help with, should anyone would give the time to read this.

I can't make out how to give a steady movement to my camera (camera 13 on my attached max file). When the top viewport is current, it moves fine, as it should, but when I go to the camera viewport, it stucks at the begining, it goes a bit faster then, it stucks once again, and then it progresses well to the end. I am confused. It is probably limited knowledge of 3ds max animation, but could anyone please help? how can I maintain a steady playback speed?

thank you in advance for reading this.

Hi @Anonymous,

your file does not contain a Camera 13.

I checked all the cameras in the file, none of which have animations :/.

Would it be the wrong file ?

Thanks

Thank you for your time.

Yes, it was the wrong file... but there seems to be a reason for that. My original file was 45MB. The one uploaded was in the same file, with a very sililar name. Maybe something happened during upload, I can't explain. Autodesk forum "chose" the smaller similar named file? ( this is science fiction! to joke a bit about it, because I am up against my deadline and start going crazy..).

We had subsequent internet on-offs at the office yesterday and I tried a couple of uploadings. Obviously I did not make it either way!

I tried uploading the correct file today, but Autodesk terminated the upload (guessing due to file size - 45MB), and we still have internet connection issues... I tossed most cameras, and "cleaned" the file. I am down to 34MB. Sorry I did not read the forum rules about attachments size..

The thing is that I cannot reduce the file size any further. It is a bldg of 2605m2. The preference "compressed" is ticked. I tried "New, keep objects" or "keep objects and hierarchy", and my animation only shows the first frame still on the new file, there is no frame flow at all, and the size is the same, so dead end.

Could I kindly ask you for an e-mail address, to googledrive it to you?  I mean, I do not think forum's "send a message" will hold that size.

By the way, camera 13 is a vray physical camera.

Thanks a hip again for your time...

PS, sorry for posting twice the same answer (our internet connection at the office is faulty), if a moderator could kindly remove it...

Hi @Anonymous,

I read well, I know I did that too, a couple of time to get a post, posted twice! ... there is a small delay when click the post button that can get pushed a few times 😞

I got the file and opened it in Max 2013. I do not have vray installed but could play the camera animation.

From what I was able to see in the scene, everything looks ok. But I did notice one thing that may be the issue you are having, or part of it. The Camera target has the exact same path animation as the camera, not bad per say, but what I got on my side is that both the Camera and its target being on the same path with the same percentage animation means that the target is on the exact same spot as the camera, making the camera tilt on its self.

I was able to correct that by offsetting the target a little bit so it stays always in front of the camera.

To do so, I went on frame 0 (the first key of the target) with autokey Off so it offsets the whole animation, and set the target % value from 0.0 to 0.05. That created enough offset so the target is always ahead of the camera.

Hopefully this is part of the issue your are seeing, maybe not.

To help Max draw in a Camera viewport, you could "hide" the drawing of a few things that you don't need to see. In Command panel "Display" you can hide objects by Category, try to hide Shapes, Lights, Cameras and Helpers. This will help on the viewport drawing and should accelerate the frame drawing.

I do hope both of these can help, let me know!

Thank you very much!

Just did all you said, and it works fine! I was looking in all the wrong places, and it was a matter of not displaying all those shapes and lights and helpers.

I really appreciate it ads_royje. I was starting to feel like my machine can't take it. Thanks also for a very professional video response!

Thanks again for your time and your trouble, have a great weekend!
