Print filename

I'm curious if anyone knows why the filename, when printing a preview dwf from vault, gets additional characters added in front of the name:

My first thought was that it could be a datestamp or something, but i can't recognize any format in the number.

It is different for each version/file, so i guess it could be some kind of ID.

I would also like to know if it's possible to (automatically) remove it, because it causes some confusion when looking for the same filename on the printed PDF when communicating these with our suppliers

The people printing them can do without the extra step of correcting the filename.

I can't 100% swear to it, but I think the extra numbers on the front of the dwf file are part of the Vault ID that the database uses to help track the file.

That does sound feasible, i was thinking along those lines as well...

Guess you wouldn't know how to stop it from adding that to the filename either?

I can try to find out where the ID is coming from.

However I can tell you already that this is not configurable. 

I think that would be a good topic for the Vault idea station to have these filenames without ID.

If you can find out what kind of ID it is i think it would make describing the idea a bit easier.

I'll give you a bit to look into that before I'll post to the ideastation, thank you for the information so far.

I see that the name is coming from "FileStore". The ID is the name of that file in FileStore

I was indeed able to find those numbers in the filestore, see screenshot:

It does raise some more questions, but i'm not sure how relevant they are to the problem.

(Like; why is it the "middle" part of that filename, how is that number built up, etc...)

I will go and try to formulate a proper idea on the ideastation and link it back here.

The only thing I could think of is to use Batch Plotting, assuming you have Vault WG or Pro. 

I don't know if that helps, but it's all I got at the moment!

Batch plotting is a good suggestion, it doesn't add the ID to the name... but it does add a few steps to the process...

From what i've seen, it goes like this:
- A supplier needs a drawing.
- The drawing number gets searched in vault.
- The preview is activated to check if it is available & correct.
- From the preview the print icon is pushed and the pdf gets printed to a location from which it gets emailed.

So instead of hitting the print icon they would have to go to File > plot, making sure they have the correct drawing selected.
Then in the plot dialog they have to select the drawing again and select the pdf printer and then hit submit...

I wouldn't have a problem with this myself, but i don't think it would work that well for them.

It's funny that plotting doesn't add the ID though, why is that different from normal printing...

I suspect it's because of the preview being a viewable file that "happens to be able to be printed" versus a "controlled" file from batch plot.  But that's just a guess on my part.

It's sort of how certain documents behave when opening from an attachment, webpage etc.  

Even if you "save as" when you open the file from the viewer, it shows up in the Windows Temp directory. 

Batch plot probably has the required magic to strip off the Vault ID and give you the proper file name.
