Pull Down Menus Not Working

Anonymous
Not applicable

Good afternoon,

Running Revit 2016 on Windows 10 and my drop down menus do not work. For example, in my properties browser I want to switch between phases, the drop down arrow does not show the list. I have to begin to type what I want to select. Same when trying to add a parameter during family creation. Have to click, then wheel my mouse to get the option to come up.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance

Could be a couple of things:

1. 1st, shut down Revit. Shut down ( power off 0 PC, then restart PC, Open Revit.

2. Create a new Project in Revit. Select appropriate Template. See if issue persists.

3. There are a few known issues w/ Revit and Windows 10--mainly involving .NET Framework versioning.

Do a search on that; might require roll-back of .NET and re-install of Revit on Win10.

4. Could be a graphics/display driver problem, and/or Hardware Acceleration setting.

I am having the same problem. Were you able to figure it out?

I haven't yet. Been to busy to dedicate the time to discovery. I'm hoping that Autodesk will issue an update for Windows 10 compatibility soon to see if it resolves itself.

Based on a couple other posts, I've narrowed it down to having a dual monitor setup. They work fine on one monitor, but as soon as I move it to the other monitor and go full screen they don't work anymore. If the window is not full screen on the second monitor I found that this happens: 2015-10-16 10.44.26.jpg

(sorry for the poor image quality)

Does anyone have any ideas?

At home I have windows 10 running revit 2016 and I have not had any problem so far. I have been running that setup for a month now and do about 8 hours work a week so maybe it's not windows 10.

It worked fine until a couple days ago, when I minimized the window and it would not pop back onto the screen when I tried to bring it back up. I had to close the program and restart it, and now it is doing this. It's not hampering my work too much, just annoying.

I tested this theory and moved Revit to my other two screens (running laptop with 2 monitors attached). On one screen is does what is shown in your picture and the main display (laptop screen) everything works fine.

This only became an issue after the windows 10 upgrade. Guess I'll go fiddle with the display settings and see what I can mess up.

I am in the same boat.  Currently I have an open laptop with an external monitor.  If both are connected and active, the drop down menus will not work when revit is on the external (and larger) screen.  However if Revit is on the laptop's monitor it works fine with both.  If I change modes to only have the external monitor on, the problem goes away with Revit on the external monitor.

Yep, same set up here. Is there any way to get Autodesk to look at this issue?

Not sure...Would think they keep an eye on these boards to address bug fixes.

Well, I came back to work this week and the pull down menus are working just fine. Not sure what has changed. Maybe Autodesk fixed it.

Here is the work around and I run three monitors (2@1980x1040 and 1@3000x2000(Laptop screen)):

Start computer.

Disconnect laptop monitor (using software)

Start Revit....make sure dropdown boxes are there.

Reconnect laptop monitor.

What do you mean by "disconnect laptop monitor"?

You can extend, duplicate, or disconnect in Windows software. Choose disconnect.

That is what I thought. I do not remember seeing a "disconnect" option.
Will check in the morning.

I followed your work around and when my laptop monito is disabled, the menus work fine on the other two screens. When I reconnect the laptop display, the problem is still there.

If I move Revit to the laptop screen all is well. When I move it to the next screen the drop down appears, but is floating away from where it should be. And when I move it to the third screen, it does not work at all.

I have disconnectd my USB display extender and plugged the HDMI directly to my laptop and the problem still exists. Not sure what else to do.

Check your display options, change size, text, apps.  Scale your laptop down and make sure Revit is running on your monitor at the native size.  Worked for me.

Well, mine was working fine in 2016 over the past several months using a laptop with an external monitor and using both monitors.  And now with an upgrade to 2017 it no longer works again.

I have just moved to Revit 17 on a new Win 10 laptop. I had the issue discussed here, and after playing with scaling I believe I have found the problem. When Laptop display was set at 125% (recommended) and external monitor set at 100% (recommended) the Problem was as Scott showed. With both set to the same scale level, whether it be 100/125/150 etc the issue dissapeared. Means I have to have small icons on laptop screen at 100%, but I think I will get used to this.

PS I realise this is a fairly old thread, but thought it may be helpful.
