Placing and Joining Beams

(Revit 2015, and new to it!). I am working on a simple sample project I created to learn things, and added timber beams running east and west along the column centerlines on top of concrete columns. I then tried to add the beams along the centerlines running north and south, but the beams were placed off to the right of the centerline. When I try to move the beam back to the centerline, I get an error message saying  “Can’t keep elements joined”.  I assume I am missing some fundamental thing – does anyone know of a good tutorial I can look at to see what the correct procedure is?

Thanks

Phil

You can use the align tool in modify tab to align the beams as you want.

If unjoine, select one Beam , Rt click on the Grip & look for the allow join option or the icon.

After joining, rt click again to edit Beam joins

Select the arrows to join as you wish.

If Grids are already placed, you can use them as place on Grids

Thank you. I've got the aligning part, although I still do not understand the “join” part,. i.e. when to join and when not to join. - Phil
