Revit 2016 R2 freezes during Synchronize with Central

We have installed Revit 2016 R2 on three of our Office computers. When attempting to synchronize with central revit just spins away and will not finish the process. This does not happen every time we STC but it does happen on all three computers. If you click anywhere on the screen the revit window goes blank - Revit not Responding. Only way to proceed is to close revit down and restart. Each time this occurs Revit creates a dump file  IN THE PROJECT FOLDER ON THE SERVER (not in the normal folder where journal files are stored). It doesn't matter which user gets the crash the dump file is always for worker #1 (journal.0006.worker1.0001.dmp) though if you look at the properies of the file > details the name of the user will display.

We wiped the R2 version from one of the three computers and re-installed the earlier version of 2016 and the crashes stopped. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone with a solution?

The worker journal file refers to the new RevitWorker.exe process used to multi-thread color fill calculations (in R2).

It sounds like the process is crashing or hanging up, leading to the hang when synchronizing.

If you still have users with R2 loaded, they could keep an eye on the background processes by opening the Background Processes dialog. Normally as calculations are spun up they will show up in this dialog for a short time and then disappear when completed.

Are you seeing this behavior with a single Revit model, or multiple (after loading R2)?

Same issue here. How can I turn off color fill calculations? Need to know before we roll back our R2 installs.

Lance This is my third attempt at replying to your post. This behavior is with a single Revit R2 File. Workaround has been to always save file before syncing. Revit hangs when we sync. Restart Local File and sync immediately then continue to work. Repeat process before closing down the file. Doesn't matter if only one operator has file open. Also get an error message dialog flashing up on screen every time I exit Revit R2: "An unrecoverable error has occurred. The program will now be terminated. All of your data has been recently saved, so there is no need to create recovery files." It disappears immediately so I don't get the chance to hit the OK button. Don't know if this is related to the sync problem.

Lance, this bug needs to be escallated and a patch issued ASAP. Our project teams have hard deadlines at the end of the year, and we are not able to be productive.

@wrudell I’ve not found an option to disable the new multi-threaded Color fill calculation system and enable the old functionality (other than uninstalling Revit, and reinstalling without loading R2).

@mschroeder If users are not able to be productive due to this issue, then I would suggest immediately reinstalling Revit (without loading R2) to clear these issues.

Thank you for the screenshot. It looks like the calculation was working on the Rooms (category) : Department (color scheme). You could check if there is anything unusual setup which could slow down calculations (e.g. range values).

All,

Just wanted to note that we reproduced this instability within the product team, identified a code fix, and have that fix slated for the next update to Revit 2016.  As of right now, that update is slated for release within the week, although that date could slip due to unforseen circumatances.

We apologize for the impact this issue has had on your teams, and should have a resolution shortly.

The patch is availableSmiley Very Happy

Steve stafford has posted about it here:

I installed the patch for one team that was having the problem a lot and haven't seen a recurrence yet, so things are looking up!

Lance We re-installed Revit 2016 from scratch; then the R2 Updates including the "fix"; on all computers and have not experienced the freeze during synch since the re-install. Also no .dmp files are being created in the local directory. Which is great. I can't say for certain that the problem is fixed though because I am the only one still working intensely on the project. If it is a work-sharing conflict that caused the crash behavior, it may reoccur on a project that involves a larger team, but so far so good. However every time I quit Revit I still get the error message: "An unrecoverable error has occurred. The program will now be terminated. All of your data has been recently saved, so there is no need to create recovery files." Don't know if this is a related problem and though it is kind of annoying it does not result in any loss of data. Anyway - Thanks for your assistance.
