Link CAD File bring to foreground?

I am attempting to take some existing plans and convert it to a Revit models... One thing that seems to slowing me down is that when you draw the walls it covers the linked drawing and you no longer see the AutoCAD drawn lines... This becomes an issue for windows and other element within the walls...

Is it possible to bring the CAD file in the foreground while drawing the plan...

I did have the thought of raising it off the base point so it was higher then the walls and changing the view cut plain but you can't see what you put into the wall doing that trick...

I also thought to turning off the Revit walls and going around placing Reference planes... but that seems like a lot of extra work...

I am hoping for an easier solution...

Thanks...

Just flip over to wireframe when placing windows and doors.
I like the fact that as I draw over a dwg, the walls hide the dwg. This
helps me keep track of what I've already drawn.

Thanks... I do like it for the same reason... Seeing what I have done... But this will help for adding the windows when the time comes for that...

On a linked file you should be able to switch from Foreground to Background
using the dropdown in the Options Bar. I think this is available for Links
but not Imports.

It is available for both links and imports.
However it is only available for importing as a symbol using "Current view
only" - not as a model object.

Also, If you move the imported DWG in an Elevation or section view up above the cut plane. Imported drawings are not affected by the cut plane.

Hello Everyone,

I've same problem for Cad link.

I want to bring cad file to background in this case i've tried 2 method

1. Cad file as import, but not shown "Draw layer" in Properties Palette.

2.Cad file as link but still not show any option to make this cad file into background or foreground (in properties or option bar)

please help me
thank you all.

It's the other way round I'm afraid. Imported CAD can be switched from foreground to background, linked CAD can't, even if it is pasted in "current view only"

Thanks

I apologize, a linked CAD can be switched from background to foreground just like an imported CAD providing it's linked in "current view only" mode, just like it was mentioned. Thanks

Is there anwyay to have a CAD file that is a model object set to 100% transparancy. We like to put our CAD files into 3D space, but they end up covering up 3D elements.

Yes.

Link it in another Revit project file.  Link that Revit file in your Revit file and set the link to Underlay in VGO.

Thanks. Can you still hide a single instance of one of the linked CAD files in the revit file you are brining it into? For instance there may be mutliple CAD instances in the revit linked model but I only want to hide one of them in a view.

Yes.  You can TAB and hide selected CAD instance in the link.  If you can't then hit back.

Just insert the cad into a new drafting view and Copy and paste where ever you want,
