Patran File Bug in MF17

Hello,

I'm having an issue with exporting a Patran file using Export -> Model -> (Patran file) in MF17.

The exported file has a slightly different format to the ones usually exported by MF.

Usually each coordinate is stored within 16 characters while in MF17 this not the case.

For example:

MF16: -1.250000000e-02 6.350000000e-02-3.000000000e-03
MF17: -1.250000000E-2 6.350000000E-2-3.000000000E-3

This difference makes the file unreadable in other softwares.

Using MPI2PAT would give the correct format in MF17. However, it would be nice to be able to export the Patran file using the export model command as it is and the outcome file a part of an automated process.

Can anyone please help me with this matter?

Hi @Anonymous!

Welcome to the forums!! Smiley Happy

Thanks for asking about this Patran issue. If you import the exported Patran back into Moldflow, you can see it stretches/explodes some elements.

Our development team has identified this as an issue with the 2017 release and have fixed it for the next release. We will be releasing Moldflow Insight and Synergy 2017 R2 version in the next week or two, so that should contain the corrected export format so you don't have to export via the script from then forward.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

it seems to be fixed to MF2017 R3.

If you have results you could give mpi2pat a try.

It also creates a .pat-file, but requires results to execute.

Berndt

Hello,

This was fixed in 2017 R2 and testing on a model I see the same output in the patran file in R2 and 2017.3. Could you confirm your build numbers for R2 under the Help > About menu. It could be model related, testing in 2017.3 would confirm.

Regards

Paul

Hello, Thank you for the information. This explains why you are still having issues. You are using Moldflow 2017 with Service pack 2.

The issue is fixed in Moldflow 2017 R2 which was our first quarterly release and is a separate install. The latest quarterly release it is R3 but the naming is now 2017.3 and I believe this will continue this way in the future.

Regards

Paul
