You used a post from 2013 ...

What version of Inventor are you using?

Maybe post a jpg,png so people can see what you're getting.

Welcome to the forum!

You're replying to a topic from 2013, so you'll have to provide a little more detail.
Which version of inventor?
How are you rendering? (studio or realistic raytrace?)
Can you supply a sample part and the decal image?

I am using Inventor 2016 and I have had this problem on 2015 previously.

I am using the studio render to render a clothes stand with a decal applied to a front face.

When I open the decal in bmp format it is correct and when I apply my deal to my part the render shows it very dull. Even though all my colours are light and bright.Lonsdale Junior - Double Wide ( SWU-LJCG-005).JPG

I have shown a real life and  a render. As you can see the decal I have applied is very dull.

I think it might be a lighting thing...

When i put your small image on a strip as a decal and go into IV studio i'm seeing a lot of difference depending on what lighting i use...

From your image i see that you're rendering inside a box, so you may have to add some more light to the scene or change the color of the light.

I'm assuming your image is larger than the sample you provided, so i'm going to rule out image resolution.

I might be totally off though, but it seems to me that this should render with proper color.

Hi,

Thank you for the help. I have tried to add more lighting but to no joy.

The image is much bigger than provided and the res on it is very good as we use these to print.

I still cant seem to get the decal right but the black is a nice shiny gloss.

Well, you can always photoshop i guess...
Could you provide your "studio" (the box with the light setup, not your stands/images as i take it they're proprietary.)
I'd like to see if there are things you can do with the lights that might influence the decal colors...

Hi! I also believe it is Lighting related. In 2016, Image Based Lighting (IBL) is turned on by default in several Lighting styles. Can you try enabling a non-IBL Lighting style, like Two Lights? The local lights are more effective in non-IBL based Lighting styles.

Let me know what you find.

Many thanks!

I have selected in my local styles the Two Lights in my Styles Editor. Is that what you mean? It has made a slight improvement but still nowhere near the way it looks before I render it.

Should I do anything to the material I am applying the image decal too?

Hi! Yes, that is the option I was talking about. You do notice some change, indicating that it is indeed Lighting style related. Try turning on more local lights in the style to see if you find it behaves better?

Thanks!

It still is miles from perfect.Image 1.PNG

The first image is before a render where the image is a nice colour.Image 2.jpg

The render still lacks the colour and brightness, I have been adding lights and taking away lights all day to no avail.

Could it be something to do with the material I am aplying the graphic to?

It might be something in the material... perhaps it's too reflective...
At least that's the first thing that comes to mind, light being reflected too much.

This is still a problem in Inventor 2018. Can you please have another look and improve the Rendering behavior of decals?

Hi! Like I mentioned in the other thread you replied to, this may be lighting style related. What lighting style are you using? Could you share an example here? Please do not duplicate threads. It may not help resolve the issue faster. It only creates confusion.

Many thanks!

Check the material of the surface you are applying the decal to as well.
