Single Composite derived assembly/ifeatures

I've derived an assembly into a part file.

On inserting an ifeature, Why can't I select a face of the single composite body?

You can create a sketch on a face, but not insert an ifeature on a face....

Thanks

Which version are you using?

At my site, there is no any issue as you descriped with Inv2012 Sp1.

It will be much better that you could upload the screenshot or data.

Did you derive the assembly in as a single composite?

Is it possible that the selection filter is toggling?

Tried all selection settings.

Still not able to insert an ifeature on a face of the single composite derived assembly.

This assembly is a frame generator assembly if that helps anymore.

You are able to insert a new sketch on a face but not place an ifeature.

I consulted with our iFeature experts and they said if you can sketch you should be able to place an ifeature.

Can we get your data to try it for ourselves and try to find the issue for you?

The reason of unable to insert iFeature is that you drived the Assemble as surface, not as solid.

After edit it into solid, the iFeature could be inserted.

Insert iFeature

Yes I already know that. The reason why I have selected surface is due to large file size with solids.

Anyway, Steve Dennis (Snr Product Development Office) is inspecting this. As he mentioned, you should be able to insert the ifeature as you can insert a new sketch.

PACDrafting,

OK I see what you are saying.  Upon investigation and consultation with some other developers it appears that when we added composite surfaces we did not augment the iFeature workflow to support them.  This is not possible right now but we all agree it should be.

I have added this request to our database and hopefully we will be able to address this in the future.

Thanks Steve for looking into this.

QA seems to be an issue with Autodesk at present.
