IV11 Content center issue.....

I am working as a standalone user (poor lonely me) and when I try to insert objects from the Content Center I get a "cannot communicate with the server" error message. When I check the data management server, it says I am logged in and the connection is made. How can it not be communitcating??? I have tried several things including a reload and continue to have the same problem. I,as with MANY users dislike the IV11 Content Center, but it is what I have to deal with for now. Please help!!

A few questions:
- Is this a fresh install of R11?
- Are you on R11, R11 SP1, R11 SP2?
- Have you tried rebooting?

Thanks,

Yes, this is a fresh install. It has been re-installed to try to resolve this issue to no avail.

IV11sp1 version.....have had another machine on sp2....it caused more issues than it fixed.

Did I reboot........good one.

Other things you might check:

Make sure the Firewall on the server machine is not the issue.
Make sure IIS is turned On. (Internet Information Services)

As far as the Firewall / Server thing......this is a standalone installtion so doesn't THIS computer act as the server and what should I be looking for.

My suspicion is about the IIS as well but when I check the services running (in Administrative Task) what should that show up as??
I don't completey understand the whole IIS or AWS thing. This is all "IT-anese" to me. I am a CAD guy with just about enough server knowledge to get me in trouble.

My situation is same as yours ,single user on 1 computer w/ Win XP pro SP2, I have IV11 SP2 and have not been able to reach the content center. I posted this some time ago but did not get an answer.
Here is a screen clip of my problem.
Thanks for bringing it up, maybe some one will help us and fix this problem.

Perhaps you have a corrupt library attached that may be causing the problem.

Do you have any read/write libraries attached? If you remove it/them, does
that help?
Can you configure libraries at all or is all communication to the server
restricted?

Also, joemang, you didn't attach the screen clip.

Reading the discussion it seems your IIS is not configured properly.
May I ask you to re-install it again, but make sure you have IIS installed prior the Inventor installation start?

If installation is sucessfull, the you should see "AutodeskDM" folder with services in the IIS.

I hope this helps.

Vita, again "IIS" and where to find it is all IT-anese to me....meaning this is foreign to me. Where should I find the IIS and where shoud I install it from?? IF it is already running WHAT should it show up as under the active services?? Read back, this was part of the previous questions. I also replied that YES I too think it may be the IIS but I don't know that much about it.

Ok.....so now I figured out that the IIS was NOT installed. Is there a way to add the AutodeskDM to the services without doing a complete reinstall of Inventor?? I don't like having to go back through and set up all of my preferences, shortcuts and the like. Please tell me there is a way to do this without a complete reinstall.

Can you find "Autodesk Data Management Server 5" in your Add/Remove program list (Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs)?

If so you can try to click "Change" button and then select Repair installation. This should fix IIS setting.

You do not need IIS unless you want other machines to get the content from
your machine. If you install IIS after installing the Autodesk Data
Management Server (ADMS) then you need to uninstall and re-install ADMS so
the installer can detect and setup ADMS to use IIS. At this point it might
be easier to uninstall IIS, reboot and try to solve the problem at hand ...

First, startup Vault Manager. Do you have any libraries installed on the
server? If so, exit Vault Manager and go to the next step. Otherwise, you
need to install the subset of the available content libraries - they are
broken up by standard.

Next, in Inventor, log into the data management server, via "File>>Autodesk
Data Management Server" menu, is "Log In ...". Use "Administrator", no
password, and "localhost" as the server, and "Vault" as the database if you
intend to modify content. Otherwise, check the "Content Center library read
only user" button and specify "localhost" as the server. If you don't want
to deal with login anymore, be sure to check the "Automatically log in next
session" button. "The "Log In ..."button should become disabled after a
successful login.

Assuming the above went OK, check the library configuration in the project
editor ("File>>Projects", the press "Configure Content Center Libraries" on
the lower right). Do you have any libraries configured for your project? Do
they show as available? If not, did you install them? I recommend removing
any libraries from the project that were not installed.

Now, assuming your library configuration is good, try to do an "Open from
Content Center". This will take a while the first time while it caches some
data, but it should be quick afterwards.

Please post how far you are able to get and I will try to diagnose where the
problem is.

Dave, for some reason the "Configure Content Center Libraries" button is not available / "lit up". Suggestions??

Hmm, Is it possible that the content center add-in(s) are disabled? Go to
"Tools>>Addins..." and make sure the Content Center addins are set to
"Startup/Loaded".

There is more than one content center add-in ... are *all* of them loaded?
Other than that I have no idea how that button could be disabled.
