I installed the 64bit version onto my machine, no problem.
I tried to install the 32bit version onto a colleagues computer and it popped up a message box asking for installation media.
Is this normal? I have the original installers on my hard drive still. Is that why mine worked and his failed? Is it a 64 bit vs 32 bit (I doubt it)? Is it because I have the full PDS Premium and he only has a standalone Inventor install? Is that you John Wayne?
Just did a blog post about this, all information on one page,

Won't install on two machines so far-- 1402 error that it can't write to registry (even though I'm logged in as administrator, same account that I used to install originally). Uninstalling and reinstalling from updated deployment-- I'll let you know Monday what happens.
Installed here on a 64 bit machine, no problem.
Took 2 tries on a 32 bit machine, uninstalled SP1 and did a reboot, 2nd time was OK.
Anyone having problems with SP1 ?
This afternoon, it crashes 3 times when saving.
Did you have any errors during the install?
I had a machine have errors about not being able to close Windows Explorer, on this machine I uninstalled, re-booted, and then it was OK.
No error displayed when installing SP1, I will try to do a clean reinstall of Inventor then SP1. Will see if it solves the problem
No problems with install or IV. Inventor actually seems faster.
Sam,
A 1402 error indicates that you do not have permissions to write to a specific key in the registry. In the error it should tell you where it is trying to write to. You'll need to run regedit, find that key, Rt click go to permissions & ensure that Everyone has Full permission.
If that does not fix it then Set “Everyone” full permission to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
Thanks,
Chris
Install went fine on 64-bit, don't have any machines that run 32-bit anymore, so not sure there. Inventor seems a little faster, will know more after today.
I no longer have a record of the specific path that was mentioned, but 2013 is the first version in which this has happened (all the way back to 5.3). The administrator account that I am using to install the SP is the same one I used for installing 2013 RTM, and therefore the account which created that section of registry. It works on some machines, or perhaps in some circumstances, not on others. But I have uninstalled and reinstalled from an udated deployment with no issues on the machines that threw the error.
It looks like that SP1 has been removed from the download area????
I just downloaded and installed it this morning and now the page is missing.
