Inventor 10 setup errors - HELP!

My registry got corrupted and I had to restory Win XP to an older system restore point. Now, when I try and install Inventor 10 I get a generic fatal error ("Installation ended prematurely because of an error") before any files are even copied. I posted the log below. Please note, though, that because my registry got corrupted all of the original Inventor folders at still there, but I can't remove them because Inventor 10 doesn't appear in the add/remove programs dialog anymore. I also tried to find it using msicuu but it still won't show up. Furthermore, I tried running a registry cleaner (AMUST).

This is a $5k program! What's going on!!!!???? Inventor is the only program that's giving me a problem.

Does anyone know where I can at least get some help from Autodesk on this issue? Per other threads I've found in here I've tried uninstalling .NET and copying the DVD to the hard drive. So far nothing's worked. I need to get Inventor running!!!

The first failure seems to indicate MSI. Here is what I found after a
google.

a.. Use Windows update to install MSI 3.1 V2 or later. Since the Autodesk
R10 AIS and AIP media was pressed, Microsoft has managed to introduce a
problem in their MSI 3 installer and then a fix for the problem. To make
sure that you are not using the problem version of the installer, in
Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Windows Update. After windows update
initializes, select "Custom Install" You will see a High Priority update of
"Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1" if it is not yet installed. Failure to do
this may damage the MSI installer on your system. This issue has only been
seen on a small number of systems.

Thanks for the info but that didn't help. The worst thing about all of this is that Inventor IS installed and I can't run it because I get a license system error (as in "A license system error has occurred. You must uninstall and reinstall this product to..."). It says to uninstall and reinstall Inventor but I can't reinstall it because it doesn't show up in add/remove programs (or in the windows installer cleanup util). This is absurd. I need to get Inventor running!!!!!! Why can't anyone from Autodesk help me?

This is definitely an Inventor only issue. I've installed other products that use windows installer and they went through fine. Of course, Inventor is the only thing installed that now doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs and I'm pretty sure its what messed up my registry in the first place.

Ok - I got the installation to run by deleting the following registry key at mentioned in the thread "Can't Re-Install R10":

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion10.0

I'm really pissed off with Autodesk about this one. How absurd is it that a $5k piece of software couldn't figure that out? I came pretty close to switching to SolidWorks there.

This "$5 K" program is not meant to perform magic. It cannot delete registry keys by itself and fix itself. In fact I would be affraid of it if it could. You must learn that windows is not a stable operating system and that the programs built for it also share that instability. Here are some tools I found helpful if you need to uninstall a program.

Ava Find (finds ANY file on your computer very quickly)
Registry Mechanic (Repairs your registry in the even of major system failure and is good for maintenance)
Bug Doctor (Erases old shortcuts)
Regseeker (helps you find old registry files)

In the case of Inventor 10 setup errors like this I suggest uninstalling manually by:
Finding all inventor files and deleting them.
Finding all inventor registry files and deleting them.
Reinstalling Inventor 10 completely

However I caution you to be VERY careful when messing with your registry as missing important registry keys can be a disaster.
