I have been getting a crash when placing a base view of an .ipt or .iam in the standard .idw. This repeatedly happens every time I create a new idw and try to place a view. Any suggestions?
Inventor 2012 SP2 and DL21989500 installed.

Rocky,
Did this just start happening or has this been happening ever since you started using 2012?
When was the last time you restarted your machine? You state the you have SP2 loaded, do you have the latest hotfixes loaded as well?
Is there any commonalities between these ipt's and iam files?
If this solved your issue please mark this posting "Accept as Solution".

1) Yes. Especially since I re-installed on a new machine. Had an OS corrupt issue, so we replaced my machine with a fresh install.
2) Less than an hour.
3) What hot fixes come after Update 4 for Inventor 2012 SP2?
4) Just the machine, the standard templates. Also a mixture of files just created and older files. I have not tested with a large number of .ipt or .iam.
Does this link for a hotfix speak to what you are experiencing?

Running Windows 7 Professional, SP2.
Under Application Options> Hardware, I set the settings to all three Graphic Settings (Quality, Performance, and Compatibility), and have checked the Softawre Graphics Box.

Please see reply to Cadmanto I just posted.
I have driver updates scheduled for install overnight. I'll post results tomorrow.
Hi! The behavior sounds like graphics related. I assume it is not file specific. Could you try changing the following setting and see if it helps?
Close all docs -> Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> Compatibility mode -> OK -> repeat your workflow.
If it does not crash, it is related to graphics. Please send in a crash report with your email address. After that, send me an email (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com) so I can dig up the report you submit it.
Thanks!
All Windows updates are current and installed.
Negative. Still crashing. Windows Upates are current.
Rocky,
If a different person logs into your computer with administrative privileges, does it work?
Thank you.
To close this out; the crashes were related to some legacy 2088 styles libraries being used with 2012.
Please remember that whenever you go to a new release of INventor, you should use the style migration wizard to ensure any legacy styles are compatiblw with the new version.
Simply pointing the new version to a previous Design Data folder does not always work.
Thanks,
Chris
To add to Chris's statment, Checking the Folder options in the Project File was what I overlooked. The simple things we take for granted.
Thanks to Johnsonshiue and Autodesk for their assstance.
