If one creates a number of solid objects in a single part file, can you still explode each individual object that are all contained in that one part file when created an exploded presentation file? Or do you have to create a part file for each object, assemble it, then explode?
Thanks

I asume you are using Multi-Body modeling. You still need to push this into a IAM file so that you can apply different materials to the individual parts (if required). This IAM file would them be used for the Exploded view in the Presentation function of Inventor.

Multi-body parts should NOT be used as a replacement for assemblies.
You have missed the step about pushing the Multi-Body Solid to a IAM file. This then allows for different materials and appearances to be pushed out to the single parts. Allows for individual part drawings and allows for the Presentation module to be used for exploded views.
You will need to create each IPT drawing from scratch, just the same as for the IAM file. No "Easy Button" for this.
