Hello,
I’m new (really new) to AutoCAD and just got a copy of AutoCAD 2002 from a friend. Am i able to upgrade to a newer version of AutoCAD? If i can upgrade, does anybody know about how much it cost to upgrade? I’m trying to figure out my best options. Either upgrade this version or just buy a new one. Is there a difference between upgrading and buying new? As is stated, I’m really new to AutoCAD. i take my first class next month.
thanks,

Hi fquintor and welcome to the Autodesk Community!
When your friend purchased his AutoCAD license it was registered to his name. If you want to use this license legally, you will need to transfer the license to your name. Please, have a look at our Transfer of License Registration form and terms here. http://autode.sk/I20gF6
Also, I see you mentioned a class there. In case you plan to use AutoCAD for educational purposes, did you know that our Education Community provides free software to students? I'd suggest you register there and see if you are eligible:)
Last point (I promise): our resellers can help you with upgrades from older versions of AutoCAD to the current one in case your friend wants to upgrade his product http://autode.sk/A9d7Af
Please let me know if you need more info or just go ahead and hit the "Accept as Solution" button if my post answers your question.
Thank you for your help, this helps alot. I will look into all the info you gave me.
thank you,
