Trying to get an older version to use old plugins

As the title says, I'm looking for an older version of 3ds Max, 2012 in fact. I'm a student who's trying to get into modeling and rigging and I wanted to test the waters a bit on some personal projects that require plugins that are only compatible with 2012. If I really need to, I can buy it, but I'd like to see how everything runs and works before pulling out my wallet. Any help or info is very appreciated, the student downloads on the autodesk site only offer 2014, 2015, and 2016. If I must buy it, could I request a link to a site I could do that at?

Versions prior to 2014 are no longer available from Autodesk, the Education Community and our resellers. 

We strongly recommend using the versions available to you from the Education Community as these are the ones currently supported by Autodesk and our partners.
