Gather Watershed Data Quickly!

When performing storm water calculations, one of the first steps is to gather watershed areas. This might consist of getting out USGS maps and tracing a line that represents the area going to the low point or outfall of your project. Depending on the watershed, this could span multiple USGS maps, because my luck is, the project I am working on is in the corner of a section that is shown on 3 different USGS maps. So just getting the information together to trace that area is time consuming. Check out how its done using the Drainage Design Vertical in InfraWorks 360!

Steps to Creating a Watershed to a point:

  • Select Create Watersheds.
  • Pick the point in your model that you would like to see a watershed calculated for.
  • Select Enter to start the analysis in the cloud.

After the Watershed has been created you can then get an overall flow.

  • Select the Watershed and right click, select edit.
  • Inside the asset card you can then select a Hydrology method.
  • Define a Runoff Coefficient.
  • Define the Rainfall Intensity.
  • A peak flow in CFS is provided.
