I have a symbol for a room tag.... trouble is the space for the room name + number is quite often too short.
Is there a way to have test a string length and expand the space to suite?
Or.. how about a way to copy the data to two separate attributes and determine if a fit text should be used instead.
Can you post static examples of what you are thinking?

Here it is... version AutoCAD MEP 2013
I must admit... I don't do many dyn blocks, so I am a bit green yet
You might review the visibily states and offer comment. But the prime question is what are some ways I can deal with the room name and number that are too long for the space.
Can you get this one to work?
I used fit text for the room number and name... but it just will not stay between the two points that defines the width inside the block. When you try and use it in the dwg you have to edit the Width Factor on the Text Options tab of Enhanced Attribute Editor. I tried everything! I know I've done FIT text for attribututes in the past... but this is the first one since taking my current possition.
I revisited this... I assume the block I up loaded will work fine on your system with the FIT justification on the Room Number Name attribute... It does not work on my computer. However, I did another test with a brand new block with FIT justification on an attribute. This one worked fine... but that is all it had in it was a single attribute definition.
I guess I need to rebuild the Room Tag from the ground up.
Any ideas what I might need to watch out for?
Also, I just realized also that I struggled with this before and left a post on the issue... I had forgotten this.
Soon as I opned your drawing I remembered seeing that before.
As you speculated it work fine here in LT 2013.
I cannot think of any additional reason that it might not behave properly on your system.

Go inside block editor.
Select the attribute.
in properties tab set "fi" in justify.
just reposition your attribute.
use attribute grip to adjust the fit width of attributes.
also check i have done some modification in your block.
