Fusion Crashing ALL the time now

I'm not sure what the update flow is for Fusion, however as of this morning i'm encountering perpetual crashes that require me to "force quit". I'll get knee deep into a sketch, less than 5 minutes later everything is locking up after I try to draw a line, close a sketch, or some other simple action.

Was there a recent update that has introduced a new bug? Are others experiencing this? I cannot accomplish a single task today.

I'm running 2.0.1482 presently.

Hello,

Could You please send a couple of Crash reports to Autodesk and give me the e-mail You filled in the Crash report?

Regards,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I've copied my email to this one-time link: https://onetimesecret.com/secret/rgkbre9qkd5wlnc0uxe0mbnhb6trloh

Hopefully you are the first to click on it! If not, just let me know of another way to be in touch with you directly.

Hi Justin,

It looks like model facet problem.

Are the crashes related to a particular model?

if Yes is it please possible to share this model with some of the Autodesk employees?

For example if You invite me to Your project temporarily, we can use the crashing model for further analysis.

But please understand we will be able to see Your data in Your project this way.

If this is not a problem, invite me to the project, my email: alexandr.petak@autodesk.com

Regards,

Alex

Thanks for sharing your model with us.

We don't think that your problems have anything to do with any recent updates to Fusion.  We suspect that these problems are specific to this data.

Looking at your crahes, there seem to be two separate issues.

The first is a problem with sketch "auto-project":  In Fusion, when you are sketching, and you are looking straight down on the sketch (which is the default, if you have "Auto look at sketch" set in your preferences, when you are creating sketch geometry, Fusion will allow you to constrain to edges in the model.  Fusion is crashing in this area on your design.  You can work around this problem by either:

1. rotate your view so that you are not looking straight down on the sketch

2. turn off your body visibility - in this case the "Dial" component, so that we do not infer to edges in this model.

The second is a faceting problem (meaning: getting the body ready to display as graphics).  We have been able to reproduce this one as well, but it is more difficult, and are still trying to debug it.  Sorry, but we don't have a workaround for this one just yet.  It might help to also turn off bodies while you are sketching, but I'm less convinced that this will prevent this crash.

Thanks for your patience,

Jeff Strater (Fusion development)

Sorry if the workaround is not clear.  Just to clarify:

Yes, you can still relate items in your sketch to other items.  However, in this particular model, for some reason, doing it automatically seems to cause some bad behavior.  So, try disabling the auto-project capability by just rotating your view away from looking straight down on the sketch.  For instance, when editing the sketch "base" in the component "Bottom" like this:

autoproject 1.png

try just rotating the view a bit:

autoproject 2.png

Then, use the Project command to project 3D geometry into the sketch manually:

autoproject 3.png

In my experience, this will reduce the crashes on this model.

BTW, we believe that we have found and fixed the bug that is causing your  crashes, and are testing it internally.

Just FYI - the bug that you found has been fixed in the update that just went out live today:  see:  may-quality-update-available/

Thanks again for reporting it to us, and glad that we were able to fix it so quickly!
