My recent documents list (C3D 2011) is full of dst files - how can I reset it??

I'm now running into this problem and it's very frustrating. If I open a drawing and do not close C3D 2013 the drawing shows up in the recent list. If I close C3D and reopen it, the recent list doesn't remember the last drawing I opened and instead lists every DST I've ever created (there aren't many, but enough to fill the default list). The only way to keep a drawing on the list after closing C3D is to pin it. How annoying.
I think I have found a good work around for this problem that doesn't involve editing the registry or installing any extra software, since my company has removed all administrator privilages from all users I had to find some other way.
I say "I think" because I have only tried it on 4 *.dwg files. If you all would help me test it out that would be great. Here is what you do (I'm going to use Civil 3D in my example):
1) Open C3D 2012 and go to Options.
2) Click the Open and Save tab.
3) In the Application Menu section, change the Number of recently-used files number, I made it 50 (the Max).
4) Click OK.
5) Click the C3D Icon on the upper left side of the program screen and click the recent documents icon.
As you can see, it still puts the *.dst files ahead of the *.dwg, but at least the most recently opened *.dwg's are listed.
Hope this helps.
I had mine set at 50 for ages, but it was still pushing the .dst files above all the .dwg s.
*edit*
Sorry, I realized that's what you said. So, yes, this does work in a manner of speaking. You get the dwgs somewhere, rather than nowhere. But you still have to go digging rather deep for them.
I also found when I had the list set to 50 that it took a good 20 seconds to open when I click on the icon. That was a dealbreaker for me, the reason why I set it back to 15.

**Attention Autodesk:**
We are still waiting for this issue to be resolved (for several years now I see).
I should be able to open the drawings I had open yesterday without having to sort through DST files that I haven't opened for a year.
I know that if you click ‘open’, your most recent drawing folder will open, however, opening the rest of yesterday's drawings should be a simple 2 clicks with the recent list, and not having to sort/scroll, pin each time, edit the registry, or clear the recent list with an external manager.
By the way, if I wanted to open a recent DST file, then I would use the ‘Recent’ list within the Sheet Set Manager that automatically starts with AutoCAD.
Please advise. Thank you.

I did but but it doesn't work. Each time I open it, an error window pops up saying "AutoCAD Recent Documents Manager has stopped working..." and then closes. I assumed it was not compaible with the Building Design Suite version.
I'll resort to the Bug Report Submission. Thanks guys.
WOW super old thread, but
This is still broken in Civil 3D 2014 is it broken in 2015?... I would love to know.
I am still yet to see a permanent work-around/fix to a fundamental component that works in every other application I use.
It seems to work while im using CAD, but as soon as i close and come back in.. it goes back to sheet sets!
PLEASE .................... FIX..............................THIS!!!!
Yes, it is still broken in 2015 but Jeff's code works well and removes the entries painlessly
