Just updated ACAD MEP from 2012 to 2013. We install "MEP As AutoCAD" in our office. When I import my profile from ACAD MEP 2012, it makes all of the normal profile changes. For example, Support File Search Path... Customizations... User Preferences, etc. However, when I close and reopen AutoCAD, the profile changes have been reset to the AutoCAD profile. I encountered this problem with 2012. I was able to fix it with the following process. This isn't working for 2013 though.
1.) Right click on AutoCAD desktop icon. Click on Preferences.
2.) In the Target line of the Shortcut Tab, Changed "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD MEP 2012\acad.exe" /p "AUTOCAD" ... to ... "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD MEP 2012\acad.exe" /p "JLJ MEP 2012" (JLJ MEP 2012) is the name of my profile.)
3.) Apply. Ok.
That's it. The Target line does look different in 2013 so I don't know what I should change it to. Everything I've tried so far doesn't work.
MEP 2013 Target line reads: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013\acad.exe" /p "AutoCAD" /product "MEP" /language "en-US"
Ideas?
Thanks,
Jess

Prior to 2013 if you installed multiple flavors of Autocad it would install them all in seperate folders. Now it will reuse any files that are the same. That is why you now see a switch for mep and the language.
To make it work, just put the name of your profile after the /p replacing "Autocad" with the name of your profile "JLJ MEP 2012"
Keith is right. Our desktop icon nomenclature changed because we now have to specify what product to launch. The folders all changed so that we install Core AutoCAD once and only once. So if you install AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP, it no longer installs 2 versions of Core AutoCAD support files. In 2013, they share Core AutoCAD support files. This helps to reduce the size that you may download across the internet from subscription center. The effect is that the desktop icon changed. You need to tell it what application to launch in the target. Keith gave great advice, just change the profile in the /P "YourProfileHere."

Hello,
here is my shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013\AecBase.dbx" /p "Mech 2013"
Crashes everytime - any help will be appreciated
hey I gave this a try and no such luck
I'm using AutoCAD Map 3D 2013 and every time I open it Planning and Analysis workspace opens.
Any suggestions?
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Map 3D 2013\acad.exe" /p "tracy2013"
AutoCAD MAP and AutoCAD MEP are two different programs....

Is the Planning and Analysis workspace the current workspace in Profile "Tracy2013"? Once you load up autocad, go into your options and make sure that Tracy2013 is the current profile. If it is then the shortcut works. You just need to change your workspace in the current profile. Workspaces and Profiles are two completely seperate things.
After creating the profile tracy2013 and closing autocad did you make sure that the workspace you created was the current workspace before closing down autocad? I am not sure if it would switch or not once you created a new profile.
Have you tried the wssave command.after you have your toolbars and such set?
I have another user here on Map 3D 2013 who is having the same problem.
It would be nice if we could find a solution to this problem for all our users prior to them upgrading to 2013.
thanks
Why are you unable to save your profile? The current workspace is saved with the profile which is actually stored in the registery.
It might be better to ask this question on the Autocad 2013 forum as more people watch that forum and might have run across your specific issue and it is a general Autocad issue. This is actually the Autocad MEP forum.
Hi ratlifftm, I know is late this response ,you might have2014 already(I am not sure if Autodesk sorted this one)
I had same problem with my Map3D 2013 and after a long irritation every start to change the workspace to my custom one, I decided to delete the rest of workspaces (Autocad Classic, Planning and Analysis workspace...etc.) and left only my current one on the list.
That's solved the issue
One of the strange defaults on all Autocad version is on the Workspace settings the radiobar is on for "Do not save changes to workspace" and after every Installation in our office I have to change to "Automatically save workspace changes"
The first one just does not make sense - why one will make changes and will not want to be saved??or have to remember to save after every new toolbar or palette change..
If one changes between the workspaces and the first(default) is on the changes on the custom workspace will be reset to where was saved last manually..
Regards

In the few years that i have been using Autocad and more specifically Autocad MEP the one question that I no longer ask is "why the heck would anyone want to do that?" No matter how incorrect i think a setting is there is always someone out there that finds the setting correct and for the life of them cannot figure out why i would want it any other way. Autocad has a extremely large customer base spanning many industries and every single one of them wants Autocad setup their way. It would be impossible for Autodesk to setup the program correctly for everyone.
