Apple has announced the next OS X El Capitan earlier today, and the first preview version is already available for app developers. AutoCAD team is starting to analyze the compatibility on this OS and preparing to fix the potential issues.

Some of AutoCAD users may have access to the El Capitan preview version, and would like to test AutoCAD on it. Please kindly post any of your findings in this thread, that would help other users and also the AutoCAD team.

Please include the following info in your posts for reference:

-OS X version(for example, DP1 15A178w)

-AutoCAD version

Thanks,
The AutoCAD for Mac Team

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Nikita,

Just want to mention tah you are not the only one person from CIS here,
Can agree, something like SPDS extension for AutoCAD for Mac would be very useful addition for users in CIS.

Hi,

Any news on having any Service Pack updates for 2013 release to be compatible with El Capitan?

I have just over a week left on Beta Mandalore and I need to undertand if there will will be any fixes or am I obliged to purchase 2015/16 LT?

If you could advise as soon as practically possible, this would be very useful.

Thank you.

Kind Regards

Nigel

Hi Evanscontreras23,

You cannot update to 2016 offical build from the Mandalore Beta. You can download the offical 2016 version from Autodesk.com or Autodesk Account portal page.

If you are a Mandalore Beta user, you should have already received an email that announced the offical release of 2016.

Thanks,
Wei

Thanks Wei,

I updated from within 2014 LT after opening and checking updates . Downloaded SP4.

All seems to be well which is good news.

I do have one issue, which I think may be more about me than the update. When I plot to PDF sometimes some of the drawing is missing in the PDF. I have tried changing the layer its drawn in, but does not sem to work. This did happen to me in the early days of Yosemite and it was corrected, perhaps by an update. I am self taught so do not have a thorough knowledge of Autocad workings. I have attached the drawing. It looks fine in a small dektop icon, but when I open it the jibs are missing !

Any thoughts to help please.

I have found one issue after update. When plotting to PDF sometimes some of the drawing is missing when PDF is opened to view in preview for mac. It looks fine as an icon view on desktop, but is missing parts when opened. However the PDF opens perfectly in Adobe !

I did have this issue after Yosemite update, but it was fixed after a further update. This does not happen with all drawings. I guess further updates will fix this also.

Hi Steve,

In fact everything is in place in the PDF file you attached, you just need to zoom in:

Looks like the lines you cannot see with zoom-to-fit viewing scale are very thin.

Thanks for your aid, I did try and delete the post as I actually sorted it afterwards. However in Adobe PDF reader it opens perfectly without alteration. It only has an issue in preview.

I do believe this was solved by an update in Yosemite as it happened to me before after 10.10 upgrade. I am using a block that I have used many times before in Yosemite without a problem.

Its a small issue that I can work round of course

try editors with retina display support only.
Autocad (for example)  appears particularly difficult to me.
i had nice experience with this photo editor for mac http://macphun.com and it does the job for me.
it also have user-friendly interface to use

I haven't used this forum before but am an avid AutoCAD LT user with SketchUP for my 3D modeling.

I use AutoCAD LT for Mac 2015 and Autodesk issued  patch #5 which I downloaded and was suppose to deal with incapatibilty issues with OSX El Capitan.  The problem I have is with the fonts.  I use Helvetica CY for all my AutoCAD work.  When I transfer plans to my new MacBook Pro computer which comes with OSX El Capitan operating system, that font is not supported and all the fonts have to be changed on the plans.  All my old work is messed up when I try to use it.  All my new work is okay if I just change my font settings to one that is supported.  Is there a reason that Helvetica CY is not supported anymore?

Incidently, I just purchased a MacBook Pro at the Mac store over the weekend and all the new computers come with OSX El Capitan.

Hi Jack,

Unfortunately at the moment I don't have access to El Capitan installation, but I have found this interesting information:

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1914227

In Adobe forums.
Looks like Helvetica CY is not available in El Capitan.

Hi Maxim,

That's what I thought, Helvetica CY is not supported with OS X El Capitan.  I've just changed my fonts for all future documents with my new computer.

For all my old documents on my old imac (OS X 10.9.5), I used time machine to go back before I upgraded to El Capitan, dumped all old versions of
AutoCAD and reloaded AutoCAD LT for mac 2015 with the old operating system.  Now I can still upload my old documents that use Helvetica Cy.

Today I used AutoCAD LT for Mac 2015 version with fix #5 on my brand new MacBook Pro all day long without a problem.  OS X El Capitan comes with all new macs.

I've learned my lesson a long time ago: NEVER DOWNLOAD NEW SOFTWARE OR UPGRADES WITHOUT BACKING UP EVERYTHING FIRST!

Autocad is better for basic photo editing

I am a beginner photographer and I only shoot in JPEG

(using editing stuff like aurorahdr.com )

So such stuff is nice only for macbook i think Smiley Wink  not for win

Hi

I have a student license and am failing to do a first install AUTOCAD 2016 on El Capitan.

I am getting system drive formatting issues as shown in image below.

To my knowledge my system drive is in journaled format also as show in image below

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

The file system of your hard drive is Case sensitive an AutoCAD cannot be installed on it. You need case-insensitive file system.

Just installed El Cap, AutoCAD 2014 looks fine, tried hatching, text editing and printing into pdf, all without crashing.

one thing i did notice though is that the finder is not showing a preview of dwg files. it is not bothering me though.
