Going backwards with new BIM360 app

Hi All,

I am posting this to make awareness to all that the new BIM360 app is actually going backwards rather than forwards. Although the newer app is much crisper it has removed the functionality to what is currently in Docs.

I think these downfalls should be addressed in the next few weeks before the Docs app is terminated.

Issues i have come across are as follows and are in the attached document. I have only spent the last hour reviewing this.

1- Ability to walkthrough the models

This has been removed in the new app

2- Viewing cad files with geolocation on them.

This has been removed and unable to view.

3- Issue viewing

This has improved slightly in that the entire issue can be viewed in one place

4- RFIS

The ability to change an RFI status is unavailable in BIM 360 app.

5- viewing properties of elements in model

There is no option in the new app to view properties.

I will add more as i see them.

I will also add what i feel are of great benefit to the APP

Sean

Hello Sean,

Thank you for sharing this feedback.

Please find our comments for the points you have raised:

1) Ability to walk through the models – this is planned to be released in the next month (before the Docs app will be retired).

2) Viewing cad files with geolocation on them – could you please elaborate on that? What capability was implemented that is now missing?

3) Happy to see this feedback.

4) RFIs – you are correct, changing an RFI status is currently not possible from the BIM 360 app. This is planned to be implemented in the longer-term, but not before the BIM 360 iOS app is retired.

5) Viewing Properties – you can view element properties by navigating in the "Model Browser" and taping on the "Properties" button for the desired element.

You can expect to have in the new two months the ability to tap on an element in the model, and isolate, hide or view its properties.

We would be happy to receive more feedback from you.

Best Regards,

Anat

Regarding

I suspect the new app CAD viewer is not showing linked images (how AutoCAD handles maps)

Hi Robin,

When in autocad you can geo locate any location in the globe to autocad.

I used to select an area and import that into Docs so that i could pin any issues or defects in a certain area and control and manage them. The map (Image background) used to be visible in the docs app but now in the BIM360 app i just get a blank screen. I cannot pin to anything.

Hi @s.odwyer , @robincapperw ,

Our development team hasn't been able to reproduce the issue you've described here, regarding the map / image background not showing up on the BIM 360 app.
Would you be able to share a sample file where you've encountered this problem?

Best Regards,

Doreen
