Please Help - Revit 2010 Interface Jumping on Screen

Please see the print screen. The blue bars at the bottom multiply from 0 to
4 as I'm working. This causing my working area to jump around and the
screen to go blank while it's moving. As you can guess, it's very hard to
work this way. I've tried 'dock at top' and it does the same thing up
above. Has anyone had problems and/or found solutions to this?

Thanks~

We are experiancing the same thing, except ours is happening at the top not the bottom. We are finding Revit 2010 very hard to work with. The tools in the ribbon jump around (I am always looking for my tools), the screen jumps as just said, and it crashes every 10 minutes, then it takes 5 minutes to open rework our lost 10 minutes from the crash and then work another few minutes till it crashes again. We try to save frequently but even the save to central takes 2, 3, 4 minutes as well. We are finding Revit 2010 to be very unproductive.

Thanks for your response. We are also experiencing quite a few fatal errors and having to make recovery files each time. My bars were multiplying at the top like yours until I docked it at the bottom. I also wish the tools / ribbons wouldn't jump around. I agree all these issues slow down productivity and hopefully we'll get a solution soon or on the next 2010 upgrade.

Un-check the press & drag box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. That should eliminate some of the jumping around.

Oh my gosh, you are a lifesaver - that worked. Thank you so much!

Actually, it helped a lot but the bars still multiply and the screen still jumps around when I move and copy. If you can think of anything else, let me know. Thanks!

Try filing a support request. The UI should not be doing this.

Rather than duplicating the bars and stacking vertically, things
*should* be stacking horizontally in one bar that is always present:

there is no doubt about it anymore- the best
thing you can do for RAC 2010 is paste that debug
file in the revit program folder that shuts down the
ribbon program and brings back the native UI..

there are only three things that don't work with
the native UI right now:

1. no model lines- but detail lines will do it all.

2. aligned dimensions are fine but for linear
dimensions you need to use the tape measure
and draw your own dimension lines..

3. multiple trim doesn't work..

We've decided to revert back to the 2009 interface as suggested. It's really too bad 2010 has so many bugs in it...

anneharvey1972-

we're in a major transition with this release of revit..

and believe it or not- this is the best release revit
has ever had- primarily because of it's all new
foundation (64 bit)..

and i've come to terms with the ribbon- not that
i can actually use it yet- but in terms of going forward
and rolling the dice on it and hoping it will be a
winner for 2011..

we're talking about some of the best programmers
and thinkers in the business- at autodesk- that's not
a bad bet..

and we're also talking about completely changing the
interface on the most sophisticated and most important
program on the planet.. that's no easy task..

Then I have to ask the question why?

Was changing the UI an excuse to be able to charge so much for Revit?

Most likey yes.

Instead of 1 clicking for a command, I am now 2 or 3 clicks to get to a command.

But hey we have Autodesk doing what they do best, screwing up great progams.

They just can't leave well enough alone.

We have a similar issue here. Here is a link to a solution I found referenced on a blog. I haven't mustered the courage to try this yet, and the thought of messing with the registry makes me nervous but for the brave ones out there, here you go.

the ribbon is like windows vista..

it works- but it's not right..

that's why autodesk gave us the option
to run the classic until they get it right-
if they do..

but windows vista was the foundation
for windows 7..

actually i know the ribbon as well as i
know the classic.. and there are things
about the ribbon i like better than
the classic.. but overall the ribbon is
slower for me the way it works right now..
and i've said this over and over- that the
ribbon is a worthwhile experiment..

if they didn't put it out there for us to use-
how would they learn what people are
doing with it..

same reason they put windows vista out
there before 64 bit windows was ready..
but you also had the choice to continue
using XP..
