Applying surface loads

I am trying to apply a surface load to only a portion of the CAD model surface.  As an example, lets say there is a 10" x 10" plate and I only want my load applied to a 3" diameter section in the center of the plate.  Is there a way to split the CAD surface, within Algor or otherwise, so that only the intended area is loaded?

Hi,

I can think of three different methods to get what you want:

1) madg1's suggestion of changing the surface property of selected lines.

2) Split the surface in CAD. This is probably the best option because it produces the cleanest, most accurate split.

3) Add a dummy part to the CAD model that has the split profile. Import the revised assembly AFTER you activate the surface splitting option in Simulation Mechanical.

These last two options are described on the page "Help > Simulation Mechanical > Open Model Files > Open CAD Files > Surface Splitting".

If you do not have the CAD application that was used to generate the model, you can always push your model to Fusion ("Tools > Edit > CAD with Fusion") and use the free CAD program provided with Mechanical 2011 and newer.
