If you are talking about regular AutoCAD dimensions [not AEC dimensions], check the setting of DIMASSOC: 2 will give you fully associative dimensions [linked to objects], 1 will give you non-associative dimensions that are one object but not linked to the geometry of other objects and 0 will give you exploded dimensions.
