On occassion we trace over a PDF, that we have attached using PDFATTACH, this works fine except when either the file that was attached or the file it was attached to is moved. After the file has been moved any attempt to reattach it results in the path being shown rather than the file being attached. Short if always ensuring the files are in the right place at the start is there any setting that will either allow the file to be reattached or for the attachment to cope with the files being moved?
method of "reattachment" in detail is...? Are you doing more than simply repathing it in REFERENCE MANAGER's FOUND AT category?
The normal method has been tp try and reattach the file using PDFATTACH again referencing the new location, none of us in the office have had formal autocad training, so generally choose the easiest option or the one we where told to use by the bloke who got it to do it right that time.
If the PDF (or DWF or DG Xref) is in the file already, simply start the REFERENCE MANAGER, select the relocated item, and repath it.

Have you tried to DETACH prior to ATTACH thru the XREF manager?

To help reduce how often this happens try the following.
1. investigate the difference between "full path" and "relative path" for the attachment type when you first attach the PDF, with relative you can move a project folder, if both files are in sub folders of the project then thay can still be found.
2. Place the PDF and the DWG in the same folder, when a ref file cannot be located at the saved path then AutoCAD searches the drawings own folder for a file of the correct name.
