Upgrading from 2002 to 20??

If this has already been discussed....please redirect...

I currently have autocad lt 2002 (just started using, was/am using Drafix Quick cad) and a New computer with windows 7 professional.

I want to upgrade.  Can I upgrade to 2013?  What problems, if any.

Will my current drawings work

What do I need to know?

Thanks

Mike

All drawings will work
You will need to buy a full se at since there is no upgrade path.
This will be a whole new experience for you.
Download the trial and see

Well any DWG file will work.
You may need to see what export options you have with the other program.

This has already been an experience....

I am als having problems with 2002 on win 7.  Errors out with GEDIT 3 all the time.  Just have to save every two moves.

Anyway, going to upgrade to 2013....

Thanks All.....

I've always had luck with Amazon for Autodesk previous versions software purchases.

Thanks for your replies.....

I L@@Ked at amazon and found everything from 1855 to 2014 versions.  Well mabe not 1855.. actually there was a carving stone version.

So what do I want?  Anything will be an upgrade..!!

I currently have 2002 that craps out every two mouse clicks, so purchasing a newer package that will work with windows 7 would be nice.  I have seen packages from 150.00 to 7,000.00.

Should I just purchase a new 2010 or 2011 package?  2d or 3d....

I am really converting from Drafix so anything will do.

What should I get?  I would like to put it on my server and allow a few to use it; however if not practical $$ then stand alone is ok.

Thanks

Mike

You can download and Trial the LT 2014 Version if you would like.

For the most part this will be how LT 2012 or LT 2013 operates.

Might give you some idea of the program and how it will fit your needs.

If you are going to purchase I would not go back much earlier than LT 2011 if you can find it from a reputable source. Not all Amazon sellers are good but you do have Amazon backing the purchase.

LT 2013 is known to be glitchy.

I have been looking around and found this......any good?

http://www.autodeskmarket.com/autocad-2012-p-5.html

One of my issues will be allowing access to the net for registration.

The computer the program will reside on will never be allowed to be on the net.....not even for a second!

will this present a problem?

Yes that is the Full Version not LT

<<After you have finished the downloading of software, our technical staff will help you to activate it through remote assistance.>>

Since the website says that they will activate through remote assistance then internet access will be a must.

I have done one download like that thru Soft Supreme and it went fine. You may want to see if someone else chimes in that may have experience with this seller.

Also, IMHO it will be better to have the actual DVD in your hand as opposed to the download for older software.

Agreed, I want the CD in my hands......

This is a bit fustrating.  Now that I am really getting into finding the proper program I find I have more questions.  I am amazed that the auto desk website will not let me talk to anyone... or I haven't found the link because it seems that they dont want to talk...just type.

Anyway,

I decided that I am looking for a 2012 package.  Do I want a lte or the full package?  Do I have to go thru the internet for anything if I purchase any cad program from them?

If the 2012 lte package is just about the same $, then i guess I want the full package.  I noticed that their are different "full packages"

Confused......

>>>... auto desk website will not let me talk to anyone...<<<
That's why Authorized Resellers (known as VARs) exist: find the one in your region of the word and talk all you want to them.

2012 packages are not current and wil be hard to find and truly authorize.

Call a VAR.

OP additionally, LT packages cost nowhere near what a full version costs. You have to ask yourself if you can live without 3D, LISP and the like. If so, then LT may be for you. If not, then full version it is.

Another consideration might be how the world is moving toward BIM-authoring software such as Revit. Autodesk offers a Revit LT Suite for small offices/one man ops. The suite also includes AutoCAD LT. As Dean says, contact your nearest reseller for more info.

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted 🙂

Thanks For All your help......

I decided to go with autocad lt 2014.  Good that I purchased it a week ago.  2002 has been erroring out on startup over the past 2 days.  Today I installed 2014, what a difference!!

Anyone know where I can download a manual for lt 2014?

How do I change the backround color from black to white?

Thanks

Mike

Hi, I can't help on the manual (don't think they make one anymore), but for your background color see the attached pic. I have 2014 full but it's about the same for LT. Type OPTIONS at the command line to get the dialog box. Then pick colors from the display tab and you can set up your screen the way you like it from there.

OPTIONS from the Command line (If you see something in all CAPS around here it is usually a Command)

Display tab in the Window that opens

Colors... near the mid left

2d Model Space is the one to change

The picture above says it with thousand words.
