Turn all layers on/thawed/unlock. Zoom Extents. Save. WBLOCK command,
manually window select everything on screen, make a new file. See if that
helps.
Another option: INSERT one of these mystery blocks, explode it (turn all
layers on/thawed/unlocked first). Move the entities to Layer 0, redefine the
block. Repeat the process for all blocks you think are the cause. You should
then be able to purge those layers.
LT does not have the programming ability to handle complex solutions like
what you seek: it might simpler to rename the layers you cannot get rid of,
and live with them.

> Does anyone know how to search and location hidden objects which prevent a
given layer from being deleted? I have had this problem for awhile. Using
PURGE will not delete layers containing objects. Sometimes I have layers
which contain an object with multiple layers. When I turn off all other
layers this layer shows up as blank, however, PURGE will not delete it. I
have found these hidden blocks by chance, but would like to be able to track
them down. I have tried LIST but this doesn't do the trick, are there any
other utilities which would let me find these hidden blocks??
