Buffer around polyline

Hi all, hope you're well.

(Running AutoCAD 2011)

I'm trying to get a buffer around a polyline.  Essentially  I'm trying to gain a shape that is at a constant 1m distance away from an existing polyline.  Which means that a lineweight just won't do.

How would I go about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much guys.

James.

Wow this is awesome!

I was looking for a faster way to create buffers and this is exactly what I was looking for. I always created a topology in task pane and then set a buffer using "MAPANBUFFER".

offsetgaptype is definitely a hidden gem. Too hidden...should be an option of the offset command.
