The only way I know to change the category of an item is right-click edit and change the category from the category drop-down. I cannot change category from the Vault property palette like other properies.
I also have it mapped so that the Inventor iProperty category can set the initial category of the item, but once the item is created this iProperty will have no effect on the item.
You can select multiple Items in the Item Master and use the command Change Catergory for all the selected Items. The change category user experience between files and items is now unified.
