Frequency response vs Random Vibration Analysis

I'm having problems running an analysis of a multipart assembly in frequency response.

The models consists of multiple parts. I first run the natural frequency modal analysis, and it comes out fine, with a sufficient amount of mass participation in all directions. Then I copy the design scenario to frequency response, set up the parameters, hit Run Analysis and it fails just after a few seconds, with no error or warning messages.

I have tried an identical model consisting of only one part, with approximately the same mesh size/number of elements, with identical parameters and the analysis finishes just fine, both modal and frequency response.

Also, the results of the different modes in natural frequency are approximately the same in both single and multipart models.

I have tried three different styles of shrinkwrap, (single solid body, single solid body with seams and each solid body as single solid), I have tried combining solids to reduce number of parts, but it seems that as soon as the browser tree in Simulation Mechanical has more than one part, the analysis fail immediately after hitting Run Analysis.

I can't work out what the problem is, does anyone else have any inputs?

I have attached two screendumps of the single and the multipart model. This is not the model I initially was working with, it's just something simple I put together while trying to work out the problem.

Hi Dan,

We talked last week about the Frequency response analysis, do you still have questions or problems running that analysis or the random vibration?

Thanks,

James
