how to create a gusset for balancing a big bending moment?

Hi All,

I am studying a tank and got a big bending moment at the base of the wall (see picture below)

to balance this bending moment i have to create a gusset at the base of the wall as shown in the picture below, so how can I do that?

Hi @REDO10

It can be simulated using solid elements.

Using shell elements you can

- split wall into two panels and define bigger thickness or variable thickness for small bottom strip. It will simulate increased wall thickness but wall will be still connected to bottom plate along line

Hi Krzysztof Wasik,

Can you show me a video how to split my wall and add solid element ?

If I use a beam with a rigid link it does not work?

Otherwise if you don't mind, can you add the solid element to my attached file below?

Thx.

Hi @REDO10

Refer to video with panel split and variable thickness definition in shell model. It is not perfect solution but it is the simplest way to simulate variable wall thickness.

I would not use beam with rigid links. I think it would be better to use inclined rigid links series without beam.

Whole tank geometry should be defined as solid  when this solution (solid model) will be used.
