Fly-through mode

Fly-through mode

With uncropped perspective views on the roadmap, I would also like to see a Fly-Through mode like we have in Formit and Archicad. That would allow us to investigate our designs much easier as it would be experienced in real life while still being able to edit objects.

Right now it's really hard to get a dynamic sense of space (especially interiors) while modeling.

I know the steering wheel offers a walk mode but it's extremely hard to use. The Formit Fly Through mode is much better.

W/A/S/D to move around, Q and E to move up and down etc

Yes, please.  I used to model in a program called GTKRadiant years ago.  Every time I want to see 3D stuff in Revit, I accidentally treat it like GTK which had the simple fly-around & edit ability you speak of.

The streering wheel is not ergonomic.

Insight 360 has a similar mode called "first person". It works pritty good.

I just found out that the model viewer on forge (used on some web platforms like Sharefile) has a fly through mode as well (called "first person"). https://developer.autodesk.com/en/docs/viewer/v2/overview/

Would we great to have that exact kind of functionality inside of Revit.

Another great example of navigation is working in the Unreal engine. That, in my mind, is perfect and I would love to see that in Revit.

Why there are so few votes?

Indeed, I was surprised this was not on the first page. As an architect it's a real struggle to navigate through the building. Archicad has had a decent fly through mode for over ten years and it's used a LOT when designing the building. We still use Sketchup a lot and its navigation methods (in perspective) are vastly superior to Revit's.

Perhaps a fly through mode is like the Iphone: people don't realize they need until they've seen it and then they wonder how they ever did without it.

Vote! Is there any architects here?

Hey guys,

Uncropped perspective is out and it's a great start. Unfortunately, navigation is still awkward (specifically orbit). Although I still am a fan of a real fly-through mode, I think it's more important to fix the default orbit in perspective first!

If you agree that orbit in Revit perspective should behave like Formit, Sketchup, Recap, Rhino and other common software packages, please add your vote at https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/3d-orbit-around-the-mouse-by-default/idi-p/7856630

Hi all!
I'm a Revit user that comes from Archicad.

Nowadays 3D models has become a powerfull way to understand next spaces, look at Headset for the Virtual Reality per example; a lot of new users comes from the young age playing videogames and they are used to move thier own camera by A+W+S+D+E+Q+SPACE+MOUSE.
This new feature will improve significantly the user experience (UX) for the next decades, like clash detection in NAVISWORKS, or even in INVENTOR.

The actually fly through is outdated..

Come on..

We can do it better. 😉

I agree, but there's already a topic for this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/fly-through-mode/idi-p/7117705

please add your votes there as well so they get counted!

This is a standard part of ArchiCAD, Navisworks, Solibri, Enscape and so on. Should also be included in Revit. It makes spotting mistakes faster.

I agree. Even posted an idea a few years ago about this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/fly-through-mode/idi-p/7117705

consider adding your support there as well

Dear Autodesk, please don't let our hopes die!

Revit 2020.1 was released yesterday and ... it features a fly mode!

In perspective, just hold-drag your right mouse button and you're in it. Keep the right mouse button down and navigate with WASD. Q and E moves you up and down (same controls as in Enscape, Unreal, Unity etc).

Speed can be adjusted by holding shift and scrolling the mouse wheel up and down.

Awesome stuff 🙂

Thanks,

I've been using it non-stop in my 2020 projects. It's a game changer! Huge thanks to the developers!
