When I used Autodesk Recap, I had to use the posting function, so I used it. It's good to connect to an Autodesk connector for posting, but there's no way to know the progress of posting. Posting in the corner of the right screen... I'm done with the notification that says... and I don't know how much more work I need to do. Of course there's merit. For very big scans it is necessary to crop the rcp file into pieces. Doing this in Recap dirctly requires plenty of resources (RAM, GPU). Recap can be used without a license to display existing files. But you get an Autodesk account login window that you have to click away if you don't have an Autodesk account.  Revit and Inventor have a viewing mode for such an application. For Recap I would like to have a viewing mode where you can open the files without the Autodesk login window.   Show More

Users should be able to see the properties of each of the "Scan Locations" and "Classifications" that are listed in the project navigator.   For example, I would like to minimally see the number of points in each Scan Location as well as each Classification. This would greatly help the user to quickly see what effect the Automatic Ground Classification (AGC) and the Decimate Points (DP) tool had on the point cloud.   Another feature that would be beneficial would be the ability to compare the statistics of the point cloud before and after running DP.  The values I would like to know would be the mean and average change in elevation across the area of the point cloud.  A representation similar to the Volumes Dashboard in Civil 3D as well as just the data would be even better so that I would know where the decimated surface might not be as accurate as I need it to be and therefore I would need to do more work at sectioning off areas in ReCap before decimating.  I need more information on what ACG and DP is really doing to the point cloud to be confident that it is not going to cause problems due to more inaccuracy than I has assuemed.  I can go through the process of bringing into Civil 3D each time I run ACP or DP, which I am having to do now, but in my opinion, I think it is really something that shouldn't require the use of Civil 3D to analyze the point cloud.  The function should be in ReCAP already.  Show More

Mesh-Creation is a powerful feature within Recap Pro being able to use the translated point cloud data and create some visualizations and animation-videos in another applications such as Autodesk Maya/3ds Max. At the moment as RecapPro user I can choose between OBJ and RCM+NWC as an output format.     Personally, I think GLB is going to be  a standard regarding final file sharing (Files which are ready-to use and do not need any further manipulations/editing).  GLB format is very compact regarding file size and is rather fast loading compared to other formats such as OBJ. Of course OBJ is a reliable format and a lot of applications are able to read/import it. Nevertheless GLB would be a good choice/option for some users within Recap Pro for the future.    Show More

It would be great for Recap to fully support unstructured datasets with matching realview panoramic imagery of all sizes into the locations of capture imagery. With the massive uptake of SLAM based scanning devices in the industry, unstructured datasets are becoming widely used. Unfortunately many project deliverables also require an offline viewing platform that can support both the point cloud and imagery views. Although Recap can display the point cloud, it is unable to display the panos captured by devices like the NavVis VLX. The need for high resolution imagery to be imported is becoming essential for Recap to be used as a deliverable. Show More

When using the limit box and tring to resize the faces, the dimension input box is TOO CLOSE to the mouse pointer, so whe you click to drag the face, the limit box input often gets selected instead. This is very annoying and should be fixed Show More

When exporting an e57 file from ReCap, the option to unify the point cloud still maintains the different scan locations. The difference between unifying and not unifying the e57 point cloud is that with "not unified" the Real Views and the Registration are still available. With "unified" you don't have Real Views and the Registration option anymore, but still the different scan locations.   The only workaround is to export to a unified RCS file, load the RCS file in a new ReCap project, and export it to the e57 file format.   The IDEA is: Add the option to directly export a "true unified" e57 point cloud. "True unified" means an unstructured (single scan) point cloud that is sampled to a given point density. A unified point cloud is typically a fraction of the size of the original and that is why it is often preferred by users of point clouds. The extra step to export to an RCS file first is not needed anymore.   Show More
