Recap can be used without a license to display existing files. But you get an Autodesk account login window that you have to click away if you don't have an Autodesk account.  Revit and Inventor have a viewing mode for such an application. We should have the ability to select a point and change the property by entering a value for X,Y,Z.  The entire point cloud could then change position based on this change.  Also, it would be nice to rotate the entire point cloud based on a reference plane or line or property value and resave.   I don't care if it takes a long time to recalculate every point.  It's easier than going back to registration, changing it there and then exporting again.   Where you at Autodesk??? More often than not,  I can use manual registration to get scans registered roughly in the correct position, but  they will be up to a few hundred mm out of alignment. I would like to be able to nudge them into position along the x, y and z axes. What I envisage is to choose a scan, specify an increment to move it by, rotate to the view plane you wish to move it in and use the keyboard arrow keys to tap it into position. Show More

I have a project that used 1.5" diameter spheres survey control coordinates. Recap would not recognize the sphere as a target, even with several hundred points on it. I realize this is an usual sized sphere compared to the standard 6", but it would be nice to have the option to specify what diameter sphere Recap should look for while registering if it differs from "standard" diameter spheres. This would work for larger spheres as well.     Show More

We need a way to manually correct the automated alignment/registration that Recap does automatically We need being able to move, 3d rotate and possibly scale a point cloud within a Recap Project, and save it This will open up a whole lot of possibilities for projects coming out of Recap Photos. When the automatic registration of such projects are not correctly done by Recap Pro, we need an option to manually position them correctly. Projects out of Recap Photo are very different than laserscans in the sense that they are usually smaller parts of objects not always well linked to the bigger whole,  hence, difficult for Recap Pro to successfuly register automatically. This is when MANUAL adjustment come in. Most point cloud softwares (leica, etc..) offer ways to automatically but also manually position a point clouds. This is critical to success in many cases. Recap should integrate the "Auto-Registration Using GPS" tool. The FARO Focus X330 has an integrated GPS receiver, Recap should take advantage of this. It would make registration extremely accurate, and Recap could then be used for surveying based applications. Show More

Once the origin in the Recap project is edited and then some "Scan Regions" are exported, after re-importing the same scan regions into the same project, they are not using the new origin, but they are following the old origin.   In fact, the scan is placed in wrong position. Please see the screencast below: Imported scans do not recognize and do not follow updated origin in ReCap   It looks that scans are exported with the old origin or not taking the origin into account at all. Ideally, imported scans should recognize the new origin.     Note: Scan can be readjusted and placed correctly with the manual scan registration process. However, when quite the amount of scans have to be processed it makes the workflow arduous.     Show More

For large scan jobs it would be useful to have the ability to export registered groups. For example out of 200 scans 6 groups are created. 5 groups can be manually connected with tight numbers. The remaining group is clean but cannot be tied to the key group without adding a new scan from the field. The ability to export group to a separate project or sub project would prevent having to re-register the group once the proper field scans are captured and added to the project. This would also enable the intermediate completion of the key group so that work can begin in other products and ultimately be substituted by the complete scan project. Show More

After trying the pro version of Recap and then speaking with Autodesk support, it appears that Recap cannot align unstructured point clouds on their own...rather, there needs to be at least one structured scan in the project. I'm not a software engineer, but it puzzles me why unstructured data could automatically (or with manual assistance) be aligned to structured data but not to other unstructured point clouds. I'd love to see this capability added.    Our current workflow is for scanning trees and surrounding exterior natural environments for treehouse designers & builders, bringing a level of accuracy far beyond their typical process and allowing them to design confidently in CAD. We started with a combination of 123D Catch (for proper alignment and scaling) and Agisoft Photoscan (for very detailed point clouds and meshes that could process locally on a machine in a few hours). The resulting redundant data sets had to be aligned manually in 3ds max then output as an obj mesh file for SketchUp or DWG for Autocad/Revit. Results were spotty, and meshes were hard to deal with. We'd like to transition to only using point clouds in all Autodesk tools...Recap, Revit, & 3ds max. Currently I can get close with Recap photo if I have one scan for the entire site (though often we have more and need to align them)...I can manually create survey points with reference distances, but proper vertical orientation is still unattainable directly in Recap (but was easy in 123D Catch). We'd love to see a solid photogrammetry workflow possible in Recap! Show More
