Educational licenses - installation limits of Desktop license model

The older perpetual EDU licenses (term limited to 3-years) specifically excluded a "home use" or "second use" license that was permitted with the commercial licenses, allowing a stand-alone license to be installed on a second computer such as a laptop for mobile use.

Some of the AutoDesk information seems to be confused as to whether this is still the case or not with Desktop/rental-model EDU licenses since they are not locked to a specific computer as the older licenses were.  Is there still a single computer install limit for EDU licenses?  Or has this been changed?

Hi

Sorry for the delay on this response.

Use of educational licenses is governed by education special terms, found here. Generally speaking, though, authorized usage for individual educational licenses allows for installation on up to 2 personal devices.  Note that educational licenses are not subscription (named user) licenses.  This could be construed as confusing since the educational licenses do have a term (3 years as you have noted) but they are not implemented the same as subscripiton licenses and they are not governed by the subscription terms of use.  They are govened by the terms at the link above.

Once a user completes the process of creating an account on the Education Community, the authorized usage (up to 2 personal devices for individual licenses) is clearly stated on the software download page(s).

I hope this helps!

Regards,

Felice

I have instaled the educational software on my desktop.

I want to install it on my laptop as well, but what happen when I replace my laptop for a new one in a few months?

I may also want to repplace my desktop.

Will I be able to download the software in my new machines?

Hi @Anonymous,

That is possible provided you do not exceed the authorized usage for educational licenses as detailed in the education special terms, as detailed in the answer above. Also, before replacing your machine, kindly ensure that the software has already been completely uninstalled, as detailed in the procedure here.  Hope this helps.

Thanks,
