appended file are positioned too far away when imported.

Keep having a failure when I try to merge two .stl files.

I‘ll open Meshmixer and import the first file. When I import and append the second file. I receive this message.

“The meshes in the appended file are positioned far away from the rest of the current scene. Would you like Meshmixer to try to automatically repair this?”

Any idea what might cause this?  Could the distance issue cause my Boolean unity to fail?

This sort of message isn't particularly unusual, especially if two different editors are used to create the two files. The answer is yes, which will move them closer to each other. You can't perform a Boolean on objects that aren't in contact. Once the automatic movement is completed, you can manually adjust, of course. Consider also that you would not save anything that does not meet your requirements, so accepting the move is effectively non-destructive and can be attempted again, as needed.

Thanks for your reply.

If there are any problems in my reply, one of my cats tried to help me edit
the reply.

It sounds like I followed the procedure you covered. The bigger problem
came after I combined the parts and tried boolean unity. I wondered if the
initial separation might have caused it.

Both files came from Meshmixer. File A was cut into two parts. Part 1 was
reduced to 40% of the original, while part 2 was reduced to 80%. Both were
saved separately as File B and File C. It is when I import file B and try
to append file C that I get this error message.

Since the imported file was visible in the workspace, I found the appended
part and used Edit/Transform to move them together. Selected both parts and
chose boolean unity. That's when my next problem happened. I'll add that
as a separate qustion

Consider also to attach the original STL files, plus the .MIX file to make it easier for viewers to examine and assist.

If its automatically getting scaled smaller, click no on any pop up.
