Original author: jletcher   Match list for iMates    Can we get this fixed..  If I have a Match List set up there is a reason I want the imate to go to the matching imate ONLY...    If I have a nut I have an imate 1/4-20 nut in my holes I put 1/4-20 nut on the other side of the hole I have one called Spacer.    When I place my nut I don't want it to attach to Spacer but to the MATCHING imate.    What good is the list if it will snap to anything?    Match means Match nothing more.    On my spacer I have one called spacer and one with support bar, support channel, Plate, etc.....    The issue is when I tell it to do all matching imates guess what happens.    It may be good to have a pick match option when placing.    If I want one  to match to plate I pick plate if I want the 1/4-20 nut I pick 1/4-20..    Then you can really use this feature as it should not half baked...  Thank you..   PS a hotfix or SP would be nice to make this work right.. I noticed that in 2023 there was a change to have the paste on a part sketch follow the cursor.  It's listed here.  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/place-pasted-sketch-block-onto-cursor-tip/idc-p/7613632#M23224   I've been using Inventor for many years and have often found myself wanting the ability to place sketches based on the origin, rather than the sketch midpoint. In previous versions of Inventor, including 2022, when you copy and paste sketch lines from one part to another in a 2D sketch, the placement would align with the origin. However, in more recent versions, it seems to default to the midpoint, which isn't always practical.   While this might work for simple shapes like circles or rectangles, it's not helpful when you're dealing with more complex sketches with multiple elements. For these situations, aligning the sketch with the origin would be far more efficient.   Could you please consider adding an option in Inventor 2025 to allow sketch placement based on the origin? This would greatly improve the workflow for users like myself who rely on precise placements during sketch transfers.   Thanks!          Show More

  Please add the ability to save or preset the user-defined custom colors in the Windows color dialogs in the drawing environment. Currently, custom colors are not retained after a restart of Inventor. The Edge Properties in particular are often modified with custom colors.       Show More

We need the capability to balloon an assembly on a drawing and set the balloon BOM view to "Structured" or "Parts Only". Then be able to place a parts list and have an option to keep that parts list linked to the balloons or disconnect them. If they are disconnected, this allows that parts list to be a "Structured" or a "Parts Only" BOM View. This also applies for any overwritten/static values. The "Copy properties" option, which is available when copying tolerances and dimension styles from one dimension to another on 2D drawings, should also be implemented for hatching. The automatically generated hatch is often not ideal, and this feature would significantly speed up its refinement. In an assembly I can define a “Mate” constraint between a straight edge and a planar face (1). Why can’t I do the same between a circular edge and a conical face (2)? It should be quite straightforward and is geometrically safe. I know the workaround to place a tiny chamfer on the edge. But that is not always possible to do. iFeatures are an old, but powerful Feature of Inventor.   Since the age of this functionality, you can only place iFeatures in already existing bodies, but not start a new body with an iFeature.   Starting a new body with an iFeature like you do e.g. with an extrusion shouldn't be too much of an effort and probably do for a JDI.   This could be very helpful in multi-body-parts. Hi everybody, I was looking for a solution to get information from the Welding Symbol(1) in the Weldment .iam - it's not possible. We can get information from 3D annotations for Welding Symbol(2), but it is not linked to the Cosmetic Weld(1). I suggest linking 3D annotations(2) with the Cosmetic Weld(1) in order to be able to obtain additional information (for example - length of the weld).   Alternative: Getting information via API from Welding Symbol(1) in the Weldment .iam. The Detail View feature, by default, creates a view that is twice the scale of the parent view.  If the result is less that 1 to 1, it will follow the custom Style in the table.  If, however, the result is 1 to 1 or larger, it will ignore the custom style and revert to the default style of "X : Y". For example, if the style of the base view format is "1 / 2", "1:2", etc. then the Detail View will always change to the format "1 : 1" in the Scale box, even though in the drop-down this will not be an option.  However, any scale less than exactly 1 still preserves the custom Style format.   Propose that this be fixed to always follow the custom Style. When creating a 2D drawing of a parts using inventor, can marked lines come into the drawing as a different layer so they can be set as a different colour, This feature is there when you export a part but not when you are making a drawing of that part.   Left is how it currently works, right is how I'm suggesting it work.    Show More

Hatch rotation in Drawing should aligned to longest Edge of hatched area  The angle of the hatching should always refer to the main outline or the symmetry lines of the sections. (See the following example:) Examples of hatching orientation The following rules must be observed when hatching: The spacing of the hatching lines is adapted to the size of the component. If cutting surfaces of several parts meet, the hatching lines of the different cutting surfaces are drawn opposite each other at 45° or 135° and the spacing is drawn accordingly narrower or wider. Inventor Sketch Block Library.   There was a question on the Autodesk Inventor Forum, about a missing command that will add sketchblocks from a predefined block library into a Autodesk Inventor part.   The first part shown in the movie is the library part and is stored in the library folder. This part contains of three blocks.   The second part shown in the movie is the normal part that contains of no blocks.   To add blocks from the library into the part, you use the command: "Get Block From Library", found in the Tools Ribbon of Inventor.   The same idea exists in the 2d drawing environment already, where you have the possibility to import or place sketched symbols into a drawing from a library drawing.   Maybe this is a good idea to implement in future releases of Inventor.     Show More

If a virtual component is inserted into an Inventor.IAM using the “Create” command, you can only create one instance with the same name. If the virtual component is inserted into the assembly via the Vault integration, you can create multiple instances of a virtual component of the same item in an assembly. You can also create multiple instances of a virtual component using “copy” and “paste”. Why does Inventor lock up when inserting another instance of the same virtual component when you can create it in other ways? Users miss the ability to assign instance properties to an instance of the virtual component. What do you need this for? A sealing tape is installed in an assembly. The sealing tape is used in different places and each piece of sealing tape has its own length. At the end, the designer wants to know how much sealing tape was installed in total and can add up the individual items. In addition, you can specify exactly which piece (with which length) should be installed on the drawing. We are aware that this task can be solved if you create an empty file, link it to the item Sealing Tape in the Vault and then work with instance properties in the empty file. However, this means I lose the advantage of a virtual component where I can create components for the BOM without using a file.    ==>   ==>  Show More
